The War of the Osa-Hormigo was a real conflict between Liberia and Italy in 1932 but its often joked that the war was so non eventful that the Italians accidentally brought back an extra person. The conflict started when Liberia placed a tariff on Italian goods and Italy responded with a naval blockade which lasted all of two days before being lifted. I just learned about the most insane story of NFL star Joe E. Wise who was a prisoner of war during WW2 and was forced to march in the Bataan Death March. The conditions were so harsh that he and other soldiers had to eat MONKEYS just to survive. Like can you even imagine having to do that? The story is both heartbreaking and fascinating at the same time. Wise was a talented athlete who played for the Philadelphia Eagles but his experience during the war is what really defines his story. I have so much respect for those who have served and sacrificed so much. The Bataan Death March was one of the worst atrocities committed during WW2 and its crazy to think about how these soldiers were treated.
