i lay with the aftertaste of mint in my mouth
feeling the slight warmth of where you were
you are not large enough to be permanent
and your chest rises and falls with shallow, gentle breaths of the innocence of unknowing
i love you but i will never be able to protect you from the sin of death
that our kind has bestowed upon you
your little figure laid next to me in trust and in love
and i welcomed you, and scratched behind your ears
you left later on to go to bed and to rest
i sometimes think that you will not wake up
but i hope that you do, and that hope comes true for now
but it pains me to know that will not be the case forever
though i wish it so
i wish your little kind heart would keep beating forever
and i wish you and i could rest like this together
my hand rests just by your little head
and you breathe
and i love you
i love you.
