We watched a movie the other day in my church's youth group. It was a part of Francis Chan's BasicSeries which deals with what the establishment of "church" should look like today.

Please don't misunderstand: I love my church. But like everything in life, there are areas that could be improved: namely, how we embrace the Holy Spirit.

At church, we can expect the same thing every Sunday. Worship, Sermon, Fellowship. Very rarely does an organization deviate from this precept. Does the Spirit always work within the predictable confines we as humans create in our time as a community in God's house? Not that He can't, but does God have a bigger plan than the hour and a half long time we have allotted for "God time" each week?

I decided to try to be more sensitive to the Spirit in this past week. And let me tell you...

I have never felt so quickly affirmed and (mostly) convicted in my life.

It was almost instantaneous: I would sin, and then I would feel the conviction of my rebellion. Or, I would do something, and I would feel the affirmation that my decision was the correct one. It was amazing!

As emotional a person as I am, being in-tune with the Spirit has helped me control my emotional range instead of letting it control me. With as stressful as this past week has been, I'm very fortunate to have had the Spirit convicting me left and right about my prideful/arrogant attitude several times over the past few days.
