Basic character movement
During the first semester we are going to be building up game mechanics in Unity, starting with basic movement and then building up to more advanced mechanics such as pendulum physics.
During the first session we covered basic forward motion. Through the use of a basic script the object will move forward when the ‘W’ or Up arrow keys are pressed and backwards whenever the ‘S’ or Down arrow keys are pressed.
To make the code efficient we declared a Transform variable called m_transform and in the Start() method we used the GetComponent<>() method to give it the Transform component of the object which the script is attached to. This means the code with find the Transform component once at the beginning instead of searching for it every time the Update() method is called.
Due to the Update() method being called every frame the speed of the object is also affected by how fast the machine the script is being run on. To stop this being and issue and to allow every machine to move at the same speed, you simply need to add ‘* Time.deltaTime’ to the calculation.
To make the object move left and right aswell, you need another line of code identical to the first line but using m_transform.right and the horizontal axis instead.

Dare You to Move
Upon stepping into Green Sun’s SOMA stores located along Pasong Tamo, one is greeted with bright lights and an array of local clothing. Each stall is its own island; a creative space for its owners to make something that stands out. SoMA prides itself on being not only shopping space but also an exhibition hall for fresh Filipino fashion designers attempting to assimilate into the business. And though we had more than enough to choose from, one stall in particular caught our eye over at Rumination this month, and that’s Esme Palaganas’ Basic Movement.
On October 19, 2013, Aletheia. Dance, Inc hosted another basic modern and movement workshop at the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Our focus and theme was "Serving Others and Showing Compassion." The Ronald McDonald House Charities is an active, energetic organization with a volunteer board of directors and professional staff serving families and children through two cornerstone programs, the Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room. They are supported by a caring community of volunteers and generous contributors and sponsors and serve families of children receiving care at a local medical facility.
These fantastic 4 youth had a BLAST! They were absolutely engaged, cooperative, and well-behaved. Each one had a unique personality and brought their attitude, style, and creativity to the dance floor. They worked super hard on their rhythm, flexibility, and technique, and when the time came for our Cypher activity at the end of class, in which each student partakes in improvisational dancing in the center of the circle, they truly did show off their creativity and even their hip hop moves. Posted above was their class picture that was taken and sent to the staff of Ronald McDonald House Charities to forward to their families. When class was over, they just couldn't leave the space simply because they had so much fun. Therefore, they stayed behind and blessed us by singing a praise & worship song they learned in church to show their appreciation...a talented group of kids! Well done kiddos! Well done!

With Love,
Aletheia :)
