Price Tower, Bartlesville, Oklahoma (1952-1956)

The Price Tower is a nineteen-story, 221-foot-high tower built in 1956 and designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

It is the only realized skyscraper by Wright, and is one of only two vertically oriented Wright structures extant; the other is the S.C. Johnson Wax Research Tower in Racine, Wisconsin.

The Price Tower was commissioned by Harold C. Price of the H. C. Price Company, a local oil pipeline and chemical firm.

Bartlesville’s divisive history of attempts to bar the 2S/LGBTQIA+ community from public spaces was brought to national attention last year when we were featured on HBO’s “We’re Here.” Let’s remind the city council that the nation is watching Bartlesville, and we all have a right to use public spaces!

Sample Letter:

Dear Council Member [Name of Your Ward's Councilor],

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to do your duty in protecting the First Amendment rights of all Bartlesville residents regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.

Regulations on gender-based dress are unconstitutional, legally unenforceable, and only serve to divide us as a community. As the Bartlesville City Council’s own attorney has advised you, attempting to ban or regulate public drag performances will only result in costly legal battles for the City Of Bartlesville.

This would not only waste valuable financial resources that could better serve Bartlesville’s residents but also further the negative national attention the city has already faced in the wake of its previous attacks on free speech through attempts to bar the 2S/LGBTQIA+ community from using public spaces.

The nation is watching Bartlesville, and I ask that you protect our First Amendment rights and vote against any attempts to ban or regulate drag in our city’s public spaces.
