Assemblywoman Baker Introduces Legislation Preventing Future BART Strikes
Sacramento, CA—Assemblywoman Catharine B. Baker (R-San Ramon) introduced as her inaugural bill in the Assembly, legislation that will prevent future BART strikes, which crippled Bay Area commuters in 2013.
Both 2013 strikes exposed a loophole in current law that allowed BART workers to strike. Baker’s bill closes that loophole. During the most recent strikes in 2013, when the contract expired,…

This strike thus turns out to be an excellent example of the dialectical interplay between class struggle and technological development. Technology is two-sided under capitalism: it can increase material abundance, and it can also oppress and fragment workers, and often it does both at the same time. The form that technological change takes is shaped by the strength and organization of workers. This is what we see played out in the BART strike.

I'll start feeling sorry for BART and AC Transit workers when they stop being such fucking assholes to everyone. Ya, my job fucking sucks, too, buddy. I've worked minimum wage jobs with fewer benefits than yours and I never so much as ignored, was rude to, or flat out disrespected a customer or someone I provided customer service to. You're making more money than some college graduates driving a fucking bus or sitting at a desk all day. At least do it with a damn smile and don't treat people taking the bus like they're the cause of all of your pseudoproblems.

How did you commute to San Francisco during the BART Strike?
An Oakland Unseen poll found that East Bay residents commuted to SF in the following ways during the BART strike: riding the ferry, skitching across the bridge, commandeering an airboat with Burt Reynolds, and "tele-commuting."

Taking BART for granted
In the spirit of BART ending their strike, I want to remind people to never take something or someone for granted. You never truly know what you have till its gone and by that time it may be too late. Sometimes you just need to stop from your everyday hustle and bustle and look at things from the outside looking in. That in turn will hopefully gauge how grateful you are for things. Everyone should be grateful for something. Taking things for granted often leads to regrets and regrets are never good. I regret stop playing baseball and I took it for granted. That was almost five years ago. Since then I haven't really had a whole lot of regrets. Be happy with what you have. Make lemonade from your lemons, or however the saying goes.
