From thursday to sunday, I have been attending Les Transmusicales in Rennes, one of the most audacious french festival with an eclectic and mixed-genre line-up.

I have been warned before and I had to make me reason: it's impossible to see all you want to see. Even if Rennes is not a big city, there is two very separated festivals centers, that is to say two completely different festivals.

Les Bars en Trans

Les Bars en Trans is taking place in the city center, not so far away from the professional meeting center - Le Liberté. This is where you will see the upcoming french indie-pop-rock scene, experienced the crazy studentlife and the over-crowded bars. It is possible to attend only this festival, you might find your luck and the line-up is very interesting. The bands are often playing twice, so that you can prepare your program. You can as well check out the free concerts at l'Ubu to enjoy a break in a real big venue, or the ones at L'Étage beginning in the afternoon. (Part of Les Trans official program)

Les Trans

On the other side of town: Les Trans (official). Be aware, you are going in the middle of nowhere. Take the shuttle bus for 20 minutes and you will be there at "Le Parc Expo" - modern industrial space that can host all kind of events. It has to be said, Les Trans are doing their best to make the space as convenient as possible. Original light installations, quiet spaces between the halls, trendy food and restaurants. It's OK. And we keep in mind a big advantage of this location: you can see almost all concerts you are interested in. The stages are maximal 5min away from each other. And the sound is very acceptable for this kind of space. A splendid opportunity for young bands and DJs, that might not have the chance yet to play on such a big stage. Les Trans, this is a crazy mix of genres. Mostly dominated by DJs, the line-up offers some well appreciated breaks of pop-rock, fusion-jazz or hip-hop. At the end, you almost forget that you are so far away, in this soulness industry area. But you will get back to reality when it's time to go home, by taking the shuttle-zombie bus! But we are ok with it, the good music we have seen makes us forget this quick.

Rennes 

You might find a moment to discover the city. Do it ! Rennes has this unique brittany charm. It is small, so just go to Place St Anne with the metro and take a look around before going back to Le Liberté - Charles de Gaulle by foot.
