When you travel, remember that a foreign country or even a different city is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable. 🌎 I still have so many photos I want to post from my visit to #Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow), Alaska. The problem is, the whole experience left me wondering how the heck I was gonna adequately talk about it on here. ⠀⠀ It’s just so culturally different! I’ve never felt more foreign in the very country I hold a passport to. ⠀⠀ I wanna represent the Iñupiat and Arctic lifestyle with appreciation and thoughtful wonder — and without misconceptions or judgement (see my subsistence whaling post which stirred up quite the convo across my social media platforms). ⠀⠀ Anyway, this is a pretty common yard on the #NorthSlope. It’s not exactly @hgtv worthy, but when you’re living in a town that no roads lead to, you don’t always have easy or cheap options of disposing your trash. You also probably want a furry doggo as your companion (and polar-bear-scarer-awayer). 🐕 . . . . . #arcticlife #barrow #barrowalaska #travelalaska #cultureshock #arctic #arcticadventure #eskimo #alaskaadventure #travelalaska #coldweathergear #girlsjustwanttotravel #outdoorbloggers #outdoorblogger #adventureblog #femaletravelbloggers #seekadventure #wanderess #wanderwithme (at City of Utqiagvik) https://www.instagram.com/p/By0lqCzBUdO/?igshid=oat8m88j1f6o
