Depending on what type of Midwest you go with (Great Plains vs Great Lakes region), it kind of depends. I’m from the plains region, and there’s certainly a lot of overlap with southern gothic, but I do think that each region is going to have their own distinctions. Some of I think also stems from where and what that state was doing during the revolutionary and civil wars, just because that affected so much of what types of populations settled in what areas for what reasons, y’know?

Oh, absolutely. There’s a lot of distinction from region to region even within large umbrella categories like “the midwest” and “the south.” And any attempt to categorize is always going to overgeneralize. 

Also the various “regional gothic” subgenres all overlap a great deal, borrowing both from each other and from larger ideas of Americana and American history. Arguably the thing that distinguishes one from the other is less a matter of specific themes or types of monsters and more a matter of how much the regional setting comes out in the story itself.

It’s like when they came up with that unnecessary Scooby Doo episode/movie where they say Scooby is descended from some talking so alien race and that’s why he can talk or whatever

Twelve years and a nonstop queue containing hundreds of posts per week, and someone noticing my consistent tagging system makes it all worth it. I tagged my reblogs as a way for me to find them again someday, that I may scroll through them like colorful ribbons saturated with things I love.

And then I didn't do so nearly as often as I keep thinking I will. 😅

But occasionally, I'll have an especially strong obsession, or a really bad day and need my #dying laughing tag, and it's reassuring to know I can dive back into my dragon hoard of posts whenever I want. And sometimes I'll notice my mutuals or Tumblr users passing by that have discovered and (sometimes extremely extensively) browsed my tags and it's so gratifying that a feature I put effort into for me actually helps other people too.
