Here is my contribution to @knifebag. I collect only a few things. Knives and pens are two of them (but which is mightier??). Knives are among the simplest, earliest and most elegant tools. From when the first human tied a sharp rock to a stick, we've been using them. People devote their entire lives to the knifemaking craft. I try to find knives that are unique, that are made by craftspeople, and that have awesome stories to tell. Knife #1: from @mlknives. Matt is awesome, his knives were featured in the amazing film "The Revenant." This is a lightweight carbon knife I ordered mostly for backpacking trips, but it does a good job in the kitchen too. Curly maple handle. Knife #2: A traditional Finnish knife called a Puukko, from Pasi Hurttila--he lives above the arctic circle and also is a wilderness guide (and an all-around awesome dude). The handle is stacked birch bark (feels amazing). Knife #3: A Mini Aurora from Bark River Knives in Michigan. Cool blue G10 handle and a good blade shape/size make it a great backpacking and kitchen tool. Knife #4: @ltwrightknives Camp Muk, named after George Washington "Nessmuk" Sears, an early adventurer in the 1800s. He preferred a knife this shape, and this is my favorite of the Nessmuk knives I’ve seen. Knives #5 and 9 are from @jknifeimports--my man Jon will hook you UP with independent craftspeople in Japan, where he sources all his stuff. Knife #6: the exception. Ordered it on Amazon. It was my first foray into Japanese Kitchen Knives, and it looked cool. VG-10 steel is not my favorite, but it does look nice. Knife #7: from #LonHumphreyKnives, hand forged, hefty and indestructible, with a polished finger choil. Knife #8: from Arnon Kartmazov of Bridgetown Forge--an Israeli who trained for 12 years in Japan and now works out of Portland. And the gorgeous teak knife bar by @kylleseebree.
