Hey Guys! Happy Friday. And to our touristic friends— welcome back to New York. One of the best questions I get asked (since I wrote that bar book) is, of course, where would you recommend? Okay, I got this. I LOVE this question. For a classic Manhattan, down-in-the-Village early evening bar hop, let me submit the following itinerary: McSorley’s to Corner Bistro to the Ear Inn. Have two or four little beers (they’re only 8-9 ounces and are sold in pairs) at McSorley’s in the East Village. Soak it in—the history, the vibe, the artifacts—before it gets too crowded, then head west to…. Corner Bistro for that fabulous , famous hamburger. You could wait for a table in the back room (or of course sit in a shed outside), but I say screw that. Sit at the bar or the perch by the front window. Enjoy dinner (and as a side note: it’s the only burger in the world my vegetarian wife ever craves) then continue southwest to…. The Ear Inn, for a jolly post-dinner cocktail hour. Nobody doesn’t like this place (locals, tourists, snobs, slobs, crabs, squids, etc.) for a reason. It’s juuuuust right. It hits on all cylinders. The room, the vibe, the service, the crowd.
