I'm a beginner barefooter. I feel really self-conscious going to classes barefoot (I'm on the west coast, so it's warm), but I power thru. Is that the best way to get over feeling embarrassed? I hate wearing shoes and feel better without them, but the comments and looks sometimes make me second guess myself. Does it get easier to just not wear shoes in public? I'm determined that other people's reaction won't stop me, but it's pretty awkward most of the time. Is/was that your experience?
It definitely took some getting used to, but the best thing to do is really not give a shit about the other people. I’ve gotten some pretty rude comments, to flat out idiotic ones, but there are also people genuinely interested too. Most people really don’t notice though, and people who see me regularly are used to it and actually surprised when I do wear shoes now. If you are more comfortable that way, then that is what’s important and everyone else can deal because it’s your decision that doesn’t effect them. You got this :DÂ
