I have another archery lesson this coming week. I am excited. I just got another half dozen arrows. My coach is really cool.
My daughter found these at a yard sale, and with some cleanup and new fletchings as good as new!
I’m exhausted, Im sunburned (it was supposed to be rainy!!!), but I finally got a gold medal!!
For my 50th birthday today, I went to the range and broke in my new limbs. Also, did this for the first time:

Today’s archery experiment: NO GLASSES!!
I’m sick of battling foggy lenses and nose slip, and I wear bifocals so there is no cheap option for getting a pair more suited to archery. And I was chatting about this with one of the coaches at the range, who also wears bifocals, and he had said that he’d tried using a pair of single-vision glasses that were really good for distance, but then he couldn’t see well enough close up to nock an arrow.
But I got to thinking… I’m farsighted. My distance vision isn’t very bad at all. And sure, my near vision is bad enough that I can’t read my phone without my glasses, but not so bad I can’t see the nock points on my string well enough to get an arrow set between them.
So I shot without my glasses today. Definitely an adjustment, since the glasses do magnify things a bit even at 20 yards, but it’s nice to not be battling foggy lenses the whole time. Plus the string can touch my nose without any worry about the glasses getting in the way.
It was not to be. No pin today 😞, but I’m sure it’ll be much less of a challenge for me by next year when outdoor season kicks off again.
Now I can stop thinking about that and focus on all the indoor tournaments coming up.
I’ve been noticing it’s been kind of a long time since the recurve coach at the range has given me any form adjustments to work on. Like, several months. So I asked him at club practice today if there was anything I should be correcting or changing and he said he’s actually impressed with how I’m doing, especially since I shoot barebow like it’s a trad bow (no string walking) and still perform consistently well. And that when he’s looking down the line at everyone’s form, he doesn’t see me doing stuff that needs correction. Which, like, hell yeah! I’ll take it!
And then he picked out a grip thing for me to work on, because there’s always things to tweak. I know there’ll be plenty to pick at when we start outdoor season. But super nice to be told I’m doing well!
