The Simpsons MBTI
Homer Simpson ESFP [THE ENTERTAINER]
[ESFPs] generally enjoy “going with the flow” and will take pleasure in whatever is happening until it no longer seems enjoyable. ESFPs tend to be generous sorts, and they may seem vulnerable, even naive, because they’re inclined to surrender themselves to the moment without restraint. [ESFPs] don’t like unpleasantness that can’t be handled with immediate action. If they get trapped in a situation they don’t want to be in, they will generally go along only until escape is possible. This can make ESFPs seem unreliable to people who care about them. They are determined to help others who seem shy to feel good about themselves and “come out of their shell,” and they may initiate a campaign to bring such people out with humor or flirtation.
Marge Simpson ISFJ [THE DEFENDER]
ISFJs relate to the outer world in a decidedly personal way, with Extraverted Feeling. ISFJs are highly alert to behaviors and gestures that suggest another’s emotional attitude, needs, or expectations, and they generally acquire knowledge that allows them to be of service—preferably to one person at a time. ISFJs are are so focused on others’ goals and expectations that they can seem literally selfless, without a full personality of their own. ISFJs have an idiosyncratic view of reality, but they don’t recognize how individual their perspective really is. Their comments and observations often precipitate reactions from others that surprise them. ISFJs may stay too long in a situation, out of loyalty or commitment, even when their potential is being limited or aquandered. This kind of dedication is a genuine virtue, but it can also indicate Fe isn’t doing its proper job in the ISFJ configuration.
Bart Simpson ESTP [THE DOER]
Like all Sensates, they are geared by their senses and enjoy action and stimulation. But unlike the ESFP, who is drawn by Introverted Feeling to an interest in people, the ESTP is galvanized by Introverted Thinking toward situations involving risk, strategy, and serious competition. ESTPs are usually charismatic, often charming. ESTPs are so alert to others’ reactions that they can use this skill to advantage, negotiating ends favorable to their own interests. An ESTP may be ruthlessly pragmatic in this respect, fully capable of depersonalizing a situation, seeing others as players in a game that inevitably results in winners and losers. ESTPs generally have their own code of honor. It may not accord with collective mores and expectations, but it is consistent and fiercely maintained--especially where loyalty to friends is concerned.
Lisa Simpson
INFJ [The Confidant]
Because INFJs use Extraverted Feeling to relate to the outer world, they may seem more outgoing than they really are. The truth is that Introverted Intuition inclines them to keep a part of themselves in reserve--to locate their true identity outside the expectations and definitions of others. Unlike INTJs, however, their sense of the unexpressed is not impersonal and causal; it is intensely personal and oriented by emotional awareness. Because they don’t usually know right away the import of what they’re Intuiting, they may “go along” with a questionable situation until they can get a hold of how they actually feel about it. INFJs can be quite tenacious in pointing out the discrepancies between state beliefs and actual behavior. INFJs wrestle all their lives with the conflict they perceive between maintaining harmonious relationships and expressing emotional truth.Â
