Bao Master, 108 S Monterey St Unit 102, Alhambra, CA 91801
Bao Master recently opened in a newly constructed building near Sprouts. With the giant bao figurine in the lobby and the modern dΓ©cor, BM definitely has Ding Tai Fung aspirations. To order, scan the QR code. Theyβll print the order out and tape it to your table. Theyβll start you off with a complimentary dish of cold appetizers β seaweed, edamame, and wood ear mushrooms. Simple. The mushrooms were crunchy. The seaweed slimy and sweet.
Choose from cold appetizers, noodles, fried rice, dumplings, baos, soups, and milk tea. The food arrived quickly.
Spicy shrimp & Kurobuta pork wontons (8 pieces), $11.98: The sauce was very good β spicy, tangy with a bit of mala spice. The wontons were fresh with thin wrappers. Very tasty. Itβs eight bites.
Pork & vegetable steamed buns (3 for $8.98): As small as a SJB but not pan-fried. The dough was thin and silky. Would have been better pan-fried. Tasted fresh.
To get service, be sure to flag someone down (itβs the Chinese way). The music is very loud for some reason. Parking is easy to find in the structure. Most customers were Chinese. The giant XLB dish is popular.
