Sinds 2002 kennen we in Nederland de Euro. Twaalf landen namen op 1 januari 2002 afscheid van hun oude munt en stapten over op de Euro. In 2001 werd het ezelsbruggetje “ding flof bips” geïntroduceerd. De euro verving namelijk de Duitse mark, Italiaanse lire, Nederlandse gulden, Griekse drachme, Franse franc, Luxemburgse franc, Oostenrijkse shilling, Finse kroon, Belgische franc, Ierse pond, Portugese escudo en Spaanse peseta. Op de nieuwe biljetten staan bruggen. Veel mensen denken dat de bruggen afkomstig zijn uit de diverse landen. Dit is echter niet zo, de bruggen zijn een fictief ontwerp van de Oostenrijker Robert Kalina. Wanneer in Spijkenisse de nieuwbouwwijk De Elementen wordt gebouwd, worden de bruggen echter realiteit. De wijk wordt ontsloten door de bruggen van de Eurobiljetten. —————- In 2002 the Euro is introduced as the new currency for Europe. Germany, Ireland, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Austria, Finland, Luxemburg and The Netherlands say farewell to their currency. On the new banknotes bridges are shown. These are a design by Robert Kalina. When a new suburb was build in Spijkenisse, these bridges were realized.
