#bang chasing

If you’ve been following us for a couple of years now, you might recall we already shared this fine lo-fi charmer with much zeal. Oakland artist Bobey just dropped his new digital EP Siblings on Golden Brown alongside a limited edition 7″ vinyl, affording us the perfect timing to reshare Bang Chasing, in case you missed it the first time around. Bang Chasing, which was originally off of Golden Brown’s debut compilation Perfectly Toasted Vol. 1 from two summers ago, is an eccentric bedroom guitar pop song with a lilting off kilter melody and much dreamy, wispy vocals. Next month, Lefse Records is launching a new digital & cassette label called Golden Brown, and they’ll be kicking off its birth with a compilation of unreleased material from 11 new & emerging artists on June 17th. Off that album comes a song from an artist named Bobey, who apparently hails from right here in San Francisco. Bobey’s contribution to the compilation is a quirky folktronica song named Bang Chasing, a lo-fi charmer whose lilting melody is off kilter transfixing and persuasive disarming. Bang Chasing's saccharine eccentric guitar pop borders on anti-folk. It’s an unpredictable work of avant-garde art both soothing intimate and full of skittish anxiety. According to Bobey’s profile, he uses a loop pedal to layer rhythmic melodies. He also drives a Nissan Maxima, in case you were wondering. The percussive guitars of Bobey’s newest track “Bang Chasing” are what immediately grab your attention. Coupled with sweet, breathy vocals and slowly-developing layers of plucked guitar, though, the overall sound maintains an element of inviting smoothness. [Read more]
