tell me if this is a strange note to point out but i often think about gooseberry's physical changes post futterman death and how that impacted her, and what could be inferred from it. people point out the obvious in regards to badling and the facial deformities post asylum but one thing i want to note is her weight gain and what that implies. we see in her pre murkoff era she is drastically different, one being her being slimmer
futterman has a lot and i mean a lot of dialogue just shaming phyllis for it, and i mean a ton. i took the two most prominent examples of this
i think with minding that the futterman puppet not only is a factive of her father, but the verison of her father who saw the current verison of her today. obviously these beliefs come from something, and i think the dialogue implies growing up futterman was very incredibly controlling about Phyllis appearance, especially her weight. her weight gain triggered after his death and post murkoff i believe was a combination of general stress and anxiety but also this sense of freedom. So often we hear gooseberry talking about having fun and not listening to what "the mean grown ups" have to say and i think this embodies her mentally around her father's death giving her unrestricted freedom which also included nobody dictating her weight and food intake. it's just so horrible to sit and shuffle through everything and seeing and recognizing how cruel futterman was to his only daughter after her mother's death
