My Alzheimer’s Diary – 14th Entry: Wednesday 5th October 2016
Rachel’s friend, Marieke Hopman from the Netherlands, sent us a few interesting links suggested by her mum who works with people who have the same condition as me. Amongst them there was a video about Henry and how listening to music help him awake to his surroundings.
Here is the link to Henry’s video: https://youtu.be/NKDXuCE7LeQ
I discussed the video with Rachel and she reminded me of a ballet we saw in Brighton in 2011, a production of the Rambert Dance Company called Awakenings. It was about the power of music to awaken people and based on a real story written by Dr Oliver Sacks, the famous neurologist who also appeared in Henry’s video. Rachel found a blog she wrote at the time so we watched the ballet again. Here is the blog link if you want to watch it too.
And so we decided to start making a list of music I like.
Rachel found a magazine made by The Reddington Project. In it there are articles on the many facets of living with Alzheimer’s. Most interesting to me is an article by Don Reddington about his experience of living with the condition. The Full magazine is free to read online via isuu.
I am using this opportunity to reiterate that I am enthusiastic to receive emails from anyone who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and who reads my diary on this blog including, of course, anyone who is reading my diary for the first time. You can view the whole diary by clicking on this link.
If you have Alzheimer’s or know someone who has Alzheimer’s, please draw their attention to this diary. I would very much like to hear from them: david at dechenne-wickert dot eu because I need others to contribute from their experience otherwise my approach will become boring (or even more boring!)
Any comments or questions please do let me know. Thanks for reading!
