For Genma: I know your dad's a baker. How much do you know? Let's say you're not on missions for a while and your father fell ill. Would you be able to run his bakery? (Also sorry if this question popped up multiple times. My Wifi kept disconnecting.)
Genma: I know the basics. I mean, I can follow a recipe and ice a cake, and I certainly helped my dad when I was younger with stuff like slicing the strawberries and things like that, but I don’t know half of what I’d need to keep the bakery open. Baking bread is a huge, complicated process, and then there’s all the pastries. Just cooking the red bean paste is an art, and that’s before you make the dough and mochi for the cakes. Dad has a couple of assistants, so they could step up and run things from the technical side if it was just for a day or two, but I’m no business manager, either. If Dad was going to be away for more than a few days, I’d close the bakery down until he was well.

Okay so Ry met Vanitas before the end of Radient Garden the first time and she kept snarking at him when he'd make a rude comment about her. She also left out food for him because she assumed he was homeless, pretty much treating him as one would a stray cat. After a while, he actually hung out a lot in her shop and grew to see her as a mother figure of sorts. He hated seeing Braig visit and he'd hide in the back, working on some of her confections instead of listening to the man flirt.
After the fall, he assumed Ry was gone and allowed himself to fall asleep, unable to do much of anything with Ventus's heart in Sora. When he came back later, during the events of KH3, he kept sneaking over to her shop to visit and the two treated each other more and more like family. When it was time for the final battle, he gave her a hug goodbye, something he had never done.
After the battle, Ry was furious to hear what had become of her boy and demanded a replica be made for him to use. She caused such a ruckus that the defenders of light caved, making him a new form and extracting his heart from Ventus. She's the main person in charge of overseeing Vanitas and his change for the better.
