Flashback Friday: Edition 2- The Day we found Heaven on Earth
It was a beautiful day in December in Patagonia and I wanted to do something. Doing something, really anything here in Bariloche without a car takes quite a bit of planning. I said to Ian, “let’s go for a walk down the street” he looked at me quizzically as just doing that isn’t terribly exciting so he said “lets go to this small lake nearby that I heard was nice to go into when it’s warm” ok.
Loaded up our backpacks with snacks, portable chairs, devices, writing materials, my SLR camera that I (should) use all the time and off we go. Waited for the #20 bus right outside our house and took it to the roundabout 10 minutes away. From there we started to walk, “just a 6 minute walk” he says.
The aforementioned roundabout
We get to this lake, known as Lago Trebol which I had heard of from my Spanish teacher as she used to live near there. We walk through some mighty tall weeds, and arrive at our destination. This place was not my idea of a good time. Just imagine, a broken down, graffitied, white (what looked like it used to be white) building which was actually an old hotel that burned down and never got built again (creepy to the max!...redrum) and Ian was like do you want to stay here? Uhh, what do you think?
So we keep walking down the road as he thought he knew of another larger lake in that direction, ok we keep walking (another 25 minutes.)
Some pretty flowers found all around Bariloche in the fall and summer time! This was also on our walk to the bigger lake (Lago Moreno.)
After about 15 minutes, I spot 10 pesos on the ground, then another 5 then a 100 peso bill on the ground! With nobody around to claim it as theirs, we knew our day was looking up! In case you don’t know, that comes to just about $8 USD, we were RICH! (think of that scene in EuroTrip)
Off the paved and safe road, I spot a dirt path so I say, lets see what’s down here. With no signage or anything, we go in that direction. I see a sign that says public bathroom and I hear some music. It was (literal) music to my ears with these sights and sounds, some civilization!
Enter our favorite spot in Bariloche what is known to be Bahia Pascasio! Just think Beach, Bar, Mountains and beauty or just see these pics. I mean, we have found it, it is simply stunning!
How awesome is this?! (please ignore my feet!)
We have found a place that we have often frequented and the owner of that beach bar has become one of our good friends in Bariloche! (hi Sofia!)
Cheers to following that dirt path!
