No 5: When Bae is Life
When I think of my ideal companion and life partner, I think of someone I would consider my best friend. Someone that I can do anything with. Someone I can share my deepest fears, hopes, dreams and desires with. Someone I can confide in…
But then I thought about this…WHAT HAPPENS IF/WHEN YALL BREAK UP?! I mean nobody ever plans on breaking up, but sometimes it happens. And yes, friends come and go blah, people are in your life for seasons blah, everyone has lost a best friend before (don’t lie). It’s natural, sometimes friendships fall apart for a plethora of reasons, someone moved, y’all had an irreconcilable fight, she slept with your man or your ex (yes, an EX is off limits even if she says “go ahead girl I don’t want him”). BUT there is one key difference here between your girls and your man…YOU NOT DOING IT TO YOUR GIRL FRIENDS! (I mean some of y’all might be idk). But like I said, you not having sex with your friends, but you are with your man, unless y’all are practicing abstinence and if so shout out to y’all. But for the rest of us, you are doing it. So not only are y’all connected on an emotional and mental level, you throw sex into the mix and now you have a cocktail for ultimate devastation, GOD FORBID if you and bae go your separate ways.
How can you have the best of both worlds? I think it is possible if you both (you and bae) make a conscious effort to have lives outside of each other. Everyone is guilty of having a bae (especially when it’s a fresh bae and y’all still in honeymoon bliss) where you ignore all your friends to hang with bae. This is when Bae is life. But what happens when you and bae have a fight, your girls are going to hit you with oh now you want to come chill since you mad at bae or whatever. Yes, I am the petty friend who will tease you about putting me on the shelf for bae. Life is all about balance, so make sure you find a balance with bae and your life and friends before bae. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, and it ain’t nothing like pushing up on bae when you haven’t seen him/her in a while! Keep it spicy. That’s all for now.
