“Show me.”
“It’s not even that bad–”
“No... show me your fist. Now.”
After Mingi sensed the genuine concern that lingered with the tone of your voice, he reluctantly raised his fist slowly, his hand leveling your eyes for you to see. When a gasp left your mouth, he was quick to defend himself, “It’s really not that bad! It doesn’t even hurt–“ Instead of listening to him make excuses, you wasted no time and grabbed his other uninjured hand and led him to the bathroom. Without saying a single word to him, you pointed at the counter for him to sit on so you can clean his wounds. Observing his hand more, it was worse than you had thought. His knuckles were awfully scraped and beginning to scab over, the bluish-purple rings of bruises already forming around his fingers. It might even be sprained or broken but you didn’t know. You weren’t a doctor.
You hated this. You hated how he got into fights.
As the disinfectant came in contact with his knuckles, Mingi clenched his fist only slightly but just enough for you to notice. It must really hurt...
“Y/n…I’m sorr–“
“You promised…”
When you finally spoke up, Mingi was listening intently, preparing to hear every single word you’re about to say because he knew he messed up. Releasing a shaky breath, you continued, “You promised me so why did you get into another fight again?”
When you looked up to hear his answer, Mingi’s heart shattered as he noticed the tears that are threatening to fall from your eyes. He knew you were trying really hard not to cry because you knew how much it hurt Mingi when you did. Even when he messed up, you were always so thoughtful towards him. He tried to answer you but failed to release a single sound out of his mouth.
You looked down back at his hand to continue wrapping it, a sole tear escaping from the captivity of your eye. When he felt the droplet fall onto his hand, Mingi also began to cry. He didn’t mean to hurt you. He didn’t mean to do this to you again.
“Y/n…I’m sor-ry… They were saying really provocative things…about you and I-I just couldn’t control–“ Mingi lifted his uninjured hand to cover his eyes as he continued to choke out his words, “I couldn’t c-control my anger…I’m sorry. I’m really r-really sorry. I know you don’t deserve someone who keeps hurting you like this– I-I’m sorry…”
Mingi had cried in front of you before, but never like this. Never to this extent. You quickly wrapped your arms around his shoulders to embrace him, the cotton of your shirt soaking up every bit of his tears. “Shhh..Mingi, it’s okay. You still shouldn’t have settled with violence, but we’ll work through this…together. Okay? We can work on this together.”
You felt Mingi nodding in your arms, and you released him to look directly into his eyes. Both of your eyes were red from mental exhaustion and glistening from crying.
You took his bandaged hand up to your lips and pressed a gentle kiss on his knuckles.
“We’ll always be together.”
