hihi, these are some things that have worked for me to reduce/prevent relapses for sh
βοΈ creating actual sfx wounds. awesome if u have the materials but if u dont, glue layers (dry between each layer) and some red ish makeup can do the same thing!! if ur looking for visuals this helps a lot, plus u can get creative with it
βοΈ if you cant stay away from harm, use items with minimal damages like dull thumbtacks or even things like sharper comb/hairbrush bristles, it'll leave a burn feeling and a little mark but wont cause permanent damage.
βοΈ cut fruit/veggies instead! ive found that peeling and slicing fruit and veggies can help reduce urges a lot. you can also use things like a unrolled fruit rollup on a plate as a "false skin" and slice at it or a pomegranate if you want to see "blood" or anything! you also can distract yourself doing things like peeling skin off of grapes or trying to make a strawberry seedless.
βοΈ drawing all over ur relapse areas can help if u just need something to take up time and to distract from harm, make something pretty!
βοΈ pinching, clawing, flicking, etc on ur skin can provide sensation without severe damage. u can also use things like laundry clamps and just put it on ur skin, very ouch
βοΈ (skin safe!) wax, it hurts however it wont leave lasting damages, i recommend lotion candles/even kink candles for this because real wax is very itchy and not good for ur skin at all
βοΈ sh pens! you can find these easily when u look up sh pens on tiktok but basically they're pens meant to replicate the burn and blood part of a relapse and it can help keep from a real relapse while still activating the feelings of an actual relapse (feel free to ask for links to buy these in my ask box, i can help find some options)
βοΈ fidget toys, specifically the stabby ones that have little plastic spikes (little ouchies is a good brand for this but theres a lot of different cheap variants all over the internet)
βοΈ ice/extreme cold items when cold enough can leave a burn type feeling, just dont give urself frostbite with it
βοΈ if you have it, a safe space for yourself until urges reduce/go away, this can even be something like ur bathtub or even building a pillow/blanket fort to sit in, anything that u can think of works
βοΈ put your sh tools in weird, hard to access places. if its not convenient, its more effort to have to relapse. make it an inconvenience to yourself to access tools for sh.
βοΈ if you cant avoid relapse, then do it on places that are more fleshy to avoid going as deep so that you don't put yourself in danger and theres less harm done
βοΈ have first aid prepared, being able to take care of a relapse can greatly reduce harm and speed up healing. (gauze, bandages, disinfectant, etc.) feel free to use my ask box if you need to ask how to take care of any type of injury properly
βοΈ if it comes down to it, try the classic things like snapping at your wrist with a rubber band or hairtie with food dye or even something like koolaid.
βοΈ distractions work sometimes, if nothing else watch your favorite show or blast some music to try and feel better, if you can then call somebody, play games, etc. it does work sometimes!
