Nerve (2016) - Film-a-Day 235
#Nerve (2016) is the perfect example of how a trailer can ruin a decent movie.
A few months ago I saw the trailer for Nerve and thought it looked pretty decent. A film that makes a statement about the dangers of smartphones is something that been coming for many years and the trailer made it look like a decent attempt to make a thrilling social commentary.
I, therefore, went into the film expecting a tense thriller with lots of twists and turns – unfortunately, I was…

I just saw the trailer for the new Ghostbusters movie and...
I don’t need to see the movie.
Why?
‘Cause the damn trailer spoiled the plot and story.
Goddammit.
Even with the box office being what it is, I still think there's an audience out there for this movie. Everyone has a different idea about marketing, but my philosophy is that if you market a movie to 16-year-old boys and don't deliver Saw or Seven, they're going to be the most vociferous ones coming out of the screening saying 'This movie sucks.' And you're saying goodbye to the audience who would get it because they're going to look at the ads and say, 'I don't want to see some slasher movie.'

This is one of those cheesy 90s trailers that makes the movie seem a lot sillier (and crappier) than it actually is. Ugh, and that cheesy text.
The Truman Show is one of my favorite movies (and I think Jim Carrey's best role) and it's does very well with its setup, using it to its fullest potential. Definitely a must-watch, great satirical film. Proof that the trailer shouldn't be the only deciding factor in whether or not to see the movie.

Oh for goodness sake, witness if you will the trailer for the upcoming film "One Day". Then you won't need to see the film, for it is the most spoilerific nonsense since that last Russell Crowe one "The Next Three Days". Maybe bad trailers require films with "day" in the title?
