Friends - Crosshair x reader
Hot tears streamed down your face as you ran to the Havoc Maurader, desperate to get away from everyone and everything. You could only hope that the ship was empty. Hopefully, the Bad Batch would be busy, unable to see this embarrassing display of emotions. It's not exactly something you wanted any of them to see.
You had finally made it up the stairs that led into the ship's main hull, still in full breakdown mode as you sat on the passenger seats. You pulled your knees to your chest and continued your sobbing.
The whole situation was messed up. You had just gotten back to your medbay station from a tough mission, tired and in need of your fellow medic friend's support. As you had reached the door though, you heard their voices on the other side. Your friend's voices. You were so relieved to hear them after so long, this is exactly what you needed!
"Yeah, but she's a little weird, don't you think?" You hesitated upon hearing this, wanting to hear more before you entered. But you weren't prepared to hear your best friend's voice practically spit out the words that came next
"No, I know she's weird. She's nothing like any of us. She hangs around that clone squad of failures because that's who she is too. A failure."
"Yeah, I'm surprised she even made it this far as a field medic," another voice chimed in.
You listened with a shattered heart to more and more comments and insults coming from people you trusted and cared about for several moments before your eyes couldn't hold your tears anymore and you ran off.
Snapping back to the present, you realized with humiliation that you weren't the only one on the ship and your crying had made some noise. This of course drew Crosshair out of his rifle cleaning and made his way to where you were. He sat down on the seat next to you, staying stoick and looking down at you as your head once again bowed down to rest in your arms on top of your knees, too embarrassed to do anything more than hiding your face.
Immediately when your head returned to its previous position, Crossshair's hands snatched your head, careful to not hurt you, but enough to have your full attention on him as he observed you.
"Who did this?" he hissed.
"M-my frien-ds," you hiccuped out.
"Real friends wouldn't do this."
"But they are my-"
"Not everyone who smiles at you is your friend. Be careful who you trust." He stated. "Now, what happened? What did they say?"
Releasing a sigh, you told him what happened, what you heard, and how you felt. Once you had finished, he just looked thoughtfully at you and contemplated the words he would use to comfort you. After a few moments of silence, he knew exactly what to say.
"Some people aren't satisfied until they sabotage other people's happiness," he started, caressing your face gently before picking up your chin to make you look into his eyes as he continued. " Any friend who would do this to you is an enemy who has infiltrated your camp."
You couldn't help now to let out a few happy tears and hug Crosshair. You realized that he was right. It no longer mattered what they said because they are not your friends.
But at least you knew the man you were hugging was your friend. And you knew that you could count on him to be there for you.
