#backwards coroika

Yeah I kind of disappeared (social anxiety was being a pain in the butt, plus I’ve been focusing more on my personal life and whatnot). I did get around to finishing this drawing this morning though, so hey :D

As for my designs of these three fellas here, I just kind of played with their designs and wanted to base them on specific species of squids (I think it’s such a cool thing when people do that).

Gonna break it down one at a time, starting with Gloves. After a while of consistently drawing my own design of him, I decided to base him off of the Firefly Squid (mainly how his tentacles can glow in the dark cuz I think that’s cool). More recently (starting with this drawing), I decided to add freckles to his face and arms (kind of like how I myself have freckles). For the can he’s holding, I loosely based it off the original Monster Energy (though I also incorperated the in-universe brand that you see on these cans in the game).

For Goggles, I based him off of the Japanese Flying Squid (as you can see by the membrane peeking out of the sleeves of his jacket). He kind of gives me flying squid vibes or at least the vibes of the kind of guy who wants to fly more than anything. I like to imagine his jacket has been modified to have zippers on the sleeves for the membrane. I also gave his tentacles a feather pattern, his he reminds me a lot of birds (don’t know how to fully explain it, but Goggles with birds (especially parrots) is a combination that just works for me).

For Backwards, I somewhat loosely based him off the Southern Pygmy Squid (namely the freckles and tentacle pattern, plus making him short; shorter than the other two (I don’t know it’s a funny idea I had). I tried playing around with the colors of his eyes and I settled on heterochromatic eyes (was originally gonna have them be a red and green gradient, but I wasn’t liking how it was turning out, soooo yeah). I also gave him a bunch of pins that relates to pop culture, since I can imagine him talking a lot about that (oh and lost media; I’d imagine he would love looking into old and lost media). I wanted to draw him giving the other two a side eye (I just think it suits him).

For the background, I loosely based it off of Scorch Gorge, though not fully (I simply had the idea of having the rock pillars in the background). I just wanted to draw celephopod people hanging out and being wholesome together TwT

And before I go, I’m just gonna add the sketch here cuz why not. This is actually the last sketch I drew on my iPhone 13 Pro Max before I got it upgraded to a 16 Plus (can’t believe I had that model for nearly 4 years).
