Did you ever hear back from them? I've been exchanging emails for three weeks (and they started ignoring my emails a week and a half ago) and never got an update on the 'closed window while it was generating, and now it doesn't show processing, but throws an error when I try to regenerate' - Would love to know if they've at least solved this for *someone*
@freshgratednutmeg
After the last message I got, which you can read about HERE, I haven't heard anything, and nothingās changed.Ā :-/Ā Honestly, Iām starting to think that this was something they tried to quietly roll out before all of the bugs were fixed.Ā They werenāt expecting a bunch of people to take notice and start trying it out. Oor maybe they were and weāre being used as their ābeta group?āĀ I have no clue at this point.
Regardless, I have three blogs that have saidĀ āBackup Processingā for MONTHS now with no change despite the last message I received from Support.Ā Iāve really kind of given up at this point.Ā Until Iāve got a reason to care about the fact that itās frozen, Iām going to let it be.
In the meantime, Iām using a (unfortunately) over-complicated free program that essentially does the same thing.Ā Itās calledĀ HTTrack Website Copier, and once you get the hang of how to use it, it works fantastically (as long as your computer has the space to hold all the files it generates.)Ā It, unfortunately, canāt save Inbox or IM messages or private posts the way Tumblrās backup can, but Iāll take what I can get.
Could you update us on your tumblr export adventure? I am currently stuck in the 'Backup processing' stage for over a week. Will there be a happy end in sight or no? I realy just want to save my chat messages more than anything else!
Hello there, Anon!Ā I absolutely can.Ā ^_^Ā So, Tumblrās most recent communication with me went like this:
āWeāre excited about this feature too! Iām sorry to say that weāre still at work on itāclearly, from what youāre reporting. My understanding of the current status is that our engineering team is working on making the ZIP files function correctly, which is why some of these backups are caught in a seemingly never-ending āBackup processingā state. Also, that state comes from our database, so clearing your browser data wouldnāt have any effect :-/ Iām also told that everything is in place to have those jobs restarted once weāve got everything working correctly. So please bear with us!Sorry again for the delay and confusionāwe hope to have this worked out soon!ā
That was sent a little over a month ago, and my three blogs that are stuck inĀ āBackup Processingā are still stuck.Ā :-/
If you REALLY need those chats backed up quickly, the best thing you can do is copy/paste everything into a GoogleDoc file.Ā Definitely more time consuming than a quick, easy backup, but worth it if itās important enough to you.Ā Otherwise, it sounds like weāre just playing the waiting game at the moment.Ā :(Ā On the bright side, it sounds like the fix will be retroactive (so to speak) and we wonāt have to do anything on our end.Ā Itāll just reset and then backup the blog like it shouldāve in the beginning.
If it matters for other blogs, I have managed to backup blogs since the frozen ones.Ā In every case, the frozen ones happened because I closed the window (presumably before the backup was finished.)Ā Every time Iāve left the window up for 24 hours, the backup has been a successful one.
