DS9: Here is Julian Bashir. Here he is being kind and gentle and compassionate and dorky and uncool for for 173 episodes

DS9: Here is Julian Bashir being forced and threatened into working, under duress, for an organization he absolutely despises and that offends his morals and core values. Also he’s sort of badass on the way. there are only 3 episodes of this in the whole show.

#I want to make it clear#if you write fanfic with S31 Julian#more power to you go for it#this is not about fanfic writers#this is about the fact that all official trek media thus far#that manages to reference Julian#always does it in the context of S31#and that I’m very concerned that if Julian pops up again in one of the new series#it’s almost certainly going to be in the context of S31#and I hate that so much#not just because I don’t like it#but because it’s like#backsies#30 years ago they managed to write a genuinely nuanced unusual character#who breaks a lot of gender and general science fiction stereotypes#and then they try and go back and write over that by making him the same sterotypical badass dude that you’ve seen dozens of times#this is the same rant I’ve gone on 100 times but I’m thinking about it again
