So my last two weeks of June went by pretty uneventfully.Â
I discovered that the big tree in our backyard was fruiting, and upon later inspection discovered that it is an apple tree!
We had planned to have a make up household games night (as our first one fizzled after we all decided we were too tired to play and wanted to go to bed early). However, the fates did not smile upon us that evening. We had gotten out the brand new, new-before-used popcorn machine to make some delicious gaming snacks. We plugged it in and turned it on to make sure it was all working - and it was. Then when we went to turn it back on, we noticed that the washing machine had stopped working (I still find it weird that it is in the kitchen!). The popcorn machine would no longer turn on and our fridge had lost power. But all of the lights and the ovens were working. So we called up our Landlord who asked us to send him a picture of the mains power board. He sent that off to an electrician and then quickly rang us back and talked us through how to fix it. While we had already looked at the mains before, it turns out that one of the switches had returned to it’s middle position (it should be turned up) and we hadn’t noticed because it was above our heads and looked fine. But that was sorted and all was well. But we were to geared up after having to deal with it for about an hour or so, so we called it off to be re-scheduled sometime in the future.
The next evening I went to what turned out to be a wonderful play called Genesis Inc. My main reason for wanting to go was because Arthur Darvill was in it. I was not disappointed! It was really unexpected with singing and humour running alongside the rather serious storyline of 2 women trying to get pregnant and using a fertility company, Genesis. It also had weird moments when a woman’s reproductive organs talked to her, and a great skit about the bible story of Sarah who bore Abraham a son at the age of 90. It was so enjoyable.
On Monday came Sports Day at the private Boys school I was working at. I spent about 4 hours outside, mostly in the shade when possible, watching the boys run and helping call out the distances for the standing long jump. However this day seemed to have drained me more than I had realised. By the time Wednesday came along and my original booking was cancelled (meaning I had to wait on a call in the morning) I decided that I would call in sick and have a rest to try and recuperate. And boy did I seem to need it. I ended up sleeping for an extra 5 hours and spend from 1pm just bingeing on netflix in bed. I also did a silly thing and bought cheap tickets to Consent, another show I had been wanting to see for that night. I thought the show was about to close to bought last minute tickets (only to realise that it is still on for another month or so). But it was another really good show and it even had a real baby on stage for the first scene!
The month ended in a rather unplanned hectic Saturday. We had signed up for a real-life game of Cluedo, where you walk around the city finding virtual witnesses to a murder. It was alright, but I think our strategy (to find all the witnesses and read their statements/figure out the murder over lunch) made it a bit underwhelming. We found the killer on the second try, after having first accused the red herring character. Over lunch I was talking about a church BBQ I was thinking of attending, when I was reminded that we had tickets to a Daft Punk Orchestral Rendition performance that night. So we each left to spend the afternoon at home saying that we were too sure if we’d end up making the concert due to us all being knackered. So I decided it was as good a time as any to go shopping for a few more teacher and summer appropriate tops. While I was out, I was informed that the concert was a go. So I rushed home to get ready and went out for a somewhat fun night of Daft Punk. The band was good, but the venue was overcrowded and pretty stuffy. They also made me tip out my waterbottle filled with icy cold water, so I was pretty sad for a bit haha.
Then today has been an errand day and time has been spent figuring out how much money I have to spend over the holidays. It it not looking too good, but it’s ok because at least I will be with my parents.
