This week on Zach Lowe’s podcast Marc Stein reported that one NBA executive believes that “Boston is going to get Paul George this week”.

George is young, taller, and a most dynamic player. Not that Butler isn’t great but George is a top-10 talent.

So the question now is, what will it take?

So here’s a trade that will work.

Keep in mind that Crowder can be substituted for Brown and/or Smart could be exchanged for Bradley. And high picks are going to get moved.

The trade:

Pacers get Okafor, Brown, Johnson, and BOTH Brooklyn picks (’17 & ‘18).

Pacers give: Paul George

Yeah, they’ll take a step back this year but they could be fast tracking to a long term great team. Pairing Okafor with Turner will give them a young talents Front court, and add Jaylen Brown as a wing. And the biggest piece could be the Brooklyn pick this year which could turn into a superstar guard. Their core would be 21, 20, 19 in Okafor, Turner, and Brown, not to mention the high pick.

Imagine two years from now starting Okafor, Turner, Brown, Fultz. They’d have a lot of cap space to sign a star and also they’d have another Brooklyn pick that I think is a good gamble to assume it will be a top-3 pick.

Sixers get: Marcus Smart, Boston’s ‘18 pick.

Sixers give: Okafor

Like I said in my last trade post “Okafor and Smart are very similar value-wise. And Smart is needed more for the Sixers than Okafor. Both players can benefit from more (and new) opportunities. Where Okafor is a offensive weapon, Smart is a defensive beast. Sixers have bigs in Embiid, Noel, and Simmons, but they desperately need a guard. Smart will bring a toughness to the team and a defensive matchup that they don’t have. A defense with Noel, Embiid, and Smart would be so much fun and so exciting. I LOVE Smart on Phili. Imagine a starting 5 of Embiid, Noel, Simmons, McConnell,and Smart. Pretty good for now and great going forward looking to bring in a shooter. Plus they have Saric and Covington coming off the bench. Plus they have the potential of the Lakers pick and the Kings draft position.” Plus they’re getting a 1st round pick which is what they were asking for.

Celtics get: George

Celtics give: Smart, Johnson, Brown, both Brooklyn picks, and next year’s Boston pick.

Is this price too high? Maybe, but they’d have George, Horford, Thomas, Crowder, Bradley. And still have Olynyk, Rosier, Jerebko, and Green coming off the bench.

Could that beat the Cavs? Maybe, they wouldn’t be the favorite but they could. George, Thomas, Hortford would be a good big-3.

The biggest issue for Boston is that it would help their rebounding and Tristan Thompson will abuse them. So they’d have to do a secondary move to bring in Bogut or Vucevic.

For that you toss them Zeller, the Memphis pick, and one of the Euro draft and stash players they drafted this year.

This Boston team would start Vucevic, Hortford, George, Bradley, Thomas. That’s a great starting 5.
