I know in the end it doesn’t matter. I get plenty of bonding time with the baby now. He seems to recognize me as a parent. He rarely nurses, which hurts my heart a little because I love the bonding feeling when he does. I feel lucky that I’m alive, though, and that he was born healthy and strong despite the risks we didn’t even know were there. I’m steadily recovering. Soon all of this will be a wild memory at least.

There were some things they needed, most of which Denny and Russell were kind enough to pick up.Obviously, they didn't need diapers and bottles and stuff like that, but they did need some blankets and bedding to create a safe sleep space for Pax. They also needed cleaning supplies for him, which was a bit tricky. Regular baby soap or shampoo might not do the trick, given he's made of metal. But soaps specifically designed for car washing wouldn't have been safe, were he to injest it. So they had to sort that out, then acquire not only the best, safest soap, but a lot of towels and brushes and washcloths too. A lot of the time shortly before his harvest was spent with a nervous, worried Bee making lists and asking Denny to run errands for him. Denny, for his part, was pretty happy to help, and was always coming him with items Bee asked for, as well as toys and other things he thought might be useful.And really, most of Bee's prep time was spent fretting. That was most of what he did.
