yeah! i mean he started to come out to john but that ended up kind of disastrous bc of john’s “straight boy attitude”

(and i don’t think that john meant anything malicious by it, and i think that john wants to be 100% supportive - he’s just the straight boy friend who while being enthusiastic and supportive, doesn’t quite Get things and sometimes asks a hell of a lot of ignorant questions)

and it was clear that during that interaction dave was really anxious and idk if i’d count it as really coming out because he never said straight up “i’m queer” or “i’m dating karkat” even if john managed to extrapolate at least that much

idk i just! my update interpretation was that when dave said “you were dating jake” he had this pause like ohhh my god my bro was probably gay or bi and not a douchey straight guy and he might not have hated me more just for dating guys this is a weird and startling revelation

and then “how did you tell your friends” like, what else could he be referring to?? "how did you tell your friends you were into jake” seems like a weird question to ask, and if he was asking about how to confess to john it seems like the question would have been worded “how did you tell jake you were into him” (or, with how things broke off, “how did you tell him”)

and he talked about jade in the same breath as he talked about john so ?? im kind of annoyed at shippers willfully ignoring her to push their yaois like ok
