Yeah, if his place is more structurally sound, then you are better off going there before the hurricane hits. There's like a 90% chance your trailer will be ripped apart. The devastation this hurricane has already caused is being compared to the bomb of Hiroshima. It has obliterated everything in its path.
If I were living on those little islands with non-safety standard built homes like Iâm sure theyâre showing on tv, then yes, perhaps you are right. If I was living in a manufactured home on Floridaâs coastal areas, again yes, you are right. Iâm in the smack center of Florida. The hurricane wonât be a Cat 5 cruising through here and so far itâs been downgraded to a Cat 3 by the time it gets to me. Indeed, itâs not exactly a comforting number, but my home did withstand three hurricanes in a row back when Charley blew through with his friends all those years ago. I think Charley was 110mph winds? I donât remember, but it wasnât anything too wimpy. My house shuddered every few times, but no damage. In fact, all the homes in my community were fine. The only âcasualtiesâ were someoneâs shed blew over (but to be fair it was aluminum and empty), my friendâs new porch blew off (according to him the guy that installed it only used one bolt at the peak to anchor it), and the pier in the community lake was destroyed. With over 200 houses in here thatâs pretty damn good. Minor stuff like roof shingles or maybe a broken window, but no one lost their homes here. Trees werenât even uprooted. I think itâs because the community is in the middle of a circle of trees. Iâm not sure how that works, but perhaps itâs some sort of a buffer? This isnât my first rodeo and Iâm certainly no greenhorn when it comes to this stuff. Iâm constantly watching the updated maps and planning. Thatâs the great thing with hurricanes, they donât exactly jump up and say surprise! You have time to plan and prepare. I have my preparations done and do have a plan somewhat in order. Trust me, I wasnât exactly confident when a Cat 4 was scheduled to tear up the center of the state and probably go right over my house. But with it moving so far west now and being downgraded, the better it is. Iâm not confident, but Iâm not too scared either. Itâs pretty much watch and wait really. I am on the bad side of the storm (one always wants to be to the left of the eye and Iâm on the right) but the more it drifts towards the west coast, the better for me. Remember, the wind speeds you hear that make it a Cat anything is whatâs going on near the eye. The winds further out are less. Not a gentle tickle breeze, but nothing like the 155 they had talked about days ago when it was first being a bitch to those poor islands. Anyhoo....thank you kindly for your concern. I honestly appreciate it. I will leave if things turn for the worst. My ex lives about 20 minutes from my house and I will go there if it comes to that. :) I will keep doing updates as the time gets closer. Itâll be coming to play with me some time Sunday after 2pm according to the latest map update.
