I live in California now (I grew up in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan) and yes America is confusing and direct and sooooo huggy like I went down to see one of the agencies I work with in SoCal and they hugged me and in my head I was screaming uhm this is a work situation I am your client
Oh my god, not just stranger-hugging but work-related stranger-hugging, I am cringing DDD: Iâve hugged colleagues, but only people I actually worked with regularly, and even then itâs kind of like âthis is only okay because we both find it awkward, but itâs less awkward than saying feelings words aloudâ. I feel like so much social interaction in the UK is predicated on everyone silently but mutually feeling really, really awkward about it happening (until we all get drunk, anyway).

also I've noticed american friends of mine seem to think Yuri is pure as driven snow and doesn't know what his male member is for and uhm no he is just a standard japanese male he has DEFINITELY thought about sex
I mean I suppose itâs kind of impressive that people can write Yuuri like heâs culturally a white dude but still bring in all that âEast Asian men are delicate flowers who donât know what sex isâ bs.Â
But seriously, I just... we did all watch the same show, right, where Yuuri refers to himself as âenthralling menâ, responds enthusiastically to Victor telling him to seduce him, whose internal monologue contains such gems as âI want to be hated as the man who took Victor from the worldâ and âIâm the only one who can satisfy Victorâ, and who yanks Victor around by the necktie in front of a stadium full of people? Or where Yuuri spent puberty in a room plastered with posters of Victor, which Iâm going to hazard a guess were inspiring things other than just his nascent skating career?
Heâs reserved and emotionally guarded and probably not all that romantically/sexually experienced (though as Iâve mentioned before, I really donât think Victor is either), but heâs not a fucking child for goodnessâ sake.
Also because apparently Iâm on a roll now, god all the language about ~purity~ and ~wholesomeness~ and being a ~cinnamon roll~ or whatever that people use around Yuuri sets my dirty old gay* teeth on edge. I get that this fandom seems to skew really young, at least on tumblr, and that a lot of these kids are themselves not straight and are probably expressing internalised issues as much as anything, but no being gay and wanting to fuck people is not âsinningâ! Itâs not shocking or scandalous! Itâs completely normal and healthy and fun! And you can in fact have gay sex without playing hetero dress-up and adhering slavishly to ârolesâ forever and ever!
*Iâm actually not remotely old and am all about smoochy romantic vanilla monogamy, but this is tumblr, where âa few months shy of thirtyâ and âenjoys having sex with other womenâ apparently makes me perverted lesbian Methuselah.
