THANK YOU! I was worried I was the only one who thought that it was incredibly stupid how Dipper had to give up something he liked yet again for Mabel's emotional sake instead of finally calling her out for being a selfish piece of shit (sorry Mabel, I love you but you Went Too Far this time) its just,,, I thought this episode was going to be about character development and we got like the complete opposite????
I wouldnāt personally go quite so far as to call Mabel a PoS (that term is reserved in my mind for either characters that are completely, wholly, utterly unlikable, or my computer, and Mabel is nowhere near the former yet; I still love her very much, Iām just pissed at her rn), but yeah, she was being a brat in this ep, and she quite rightly deserved to be called out on her behavior. Itās really starting to irk me that itās all on Dipper to make the big sacrifices to snap Mabel out each of her self-centered funks so they can actually get stuff done every single time.
When has Mabel ever given up something really, truly wanted out of her own volition for Dipper and not because she was shamed into it at the last minute by the evil wedge of cheese currently possessing her brotherās body? Donāt get me wrong, the finale of Sock Opera was a great, fist-pump worthy moment for her, but it doesnāt seem like the lesson truly stuck, and Dipperās back to being the mature one about their relationship. I might have been more accepting of his decision to stay with her ā ostensibly so they ādonāt miss each otherās childhoodsā ā if they had somehow sufficiently addressed the whole glaring issue of them having to discover and develop their own paths and identities at some point. Because thatās something they will need to do if they want to become well-adjusted adults and have lives of their own someday, especially because theyāre so different. Just ignoring that huge elephant in the room is not going to make it go away.
Fordās apprenticeship offer seemed to be a great way for them to start working through that and the codependency issues their relationship currently does have, and Iām still miffed that Dipper was just like ālolz no, that was a dumb idea wasnāt itā at the end instead of trying to find a compromise or workaround that will make both him and his sister happy and develop them as individuals as well.
