the tldr there is that sylvia is a Big Mess and your character probably knows who she is if they watched the news at all 2 years ago bc the kidnapping of her child was a Big Deal and everyone thought she did it bc she was a true crime writer who knew how to Commit Murder (the suspicion was mostly actually driven by homophobia and sylvia’s emotional constipation/inability to cry tho lbr) 

she moved to crescent lake to do research for a book about the cult and the subsequent disappearances bc she hasn’t published anything in like 5 years probably and the royalties from her last books are drying up and all that booze is expensive bby

born in tulsa, oklahoma on november 10th, 1996, hector, surprisingly, came from the most normal suburban beginnings you could imagine. he had two parents, an older sister, dog, cat, and a hamster. he was a rather normal child, though he had a wild independent streak that only got worse as he aged. didn’t play very well with others and would only play simon says if he got to be simon, but was friendly and jovial with those he liked.

stubborn as a mule, hector was fiercely independent and increasingly selfish. by the time middle school came around, hector created a hierarchy within his group of friends and became a bully around his school, though was more pushy than outright cruel. a very rowdy teen, hector never took anything very seriously and didn’t form attachments in a healthy sort of way, something that’s only worse instead of better now. 

while he liked his family well enough, he never felt a strong bond with them. they loved him very much and would try to foster a healthy, loving relationship with him, he was like #nah and spent most of his time out of the house, never telling them what he was doing and where he was going. his father and sister gave up on him, but his mother still held out hope that it was just an incredibly long phase.

barely showing up to school even when it was mandatory, hector’s primary focus was on having a good time. that meant sex, drugs, and copious amounts of partying. scaring little old ladies, taking cars on joyrides. a petty criminal by the age of fifteen, hector hasn’t been in trouble with the law very often, but it’s really only a matter of time before he gets more severe.

his parents didn’t have a chance to kick him out or send him to military school because he straight up bounced by the time he was seventeen. he left one day to a friend’s house and just didn’t come back. hector didn’t stay around tulsa for very long after that, drifting all over the southwestern states, most notably in reno, nevada in his late teens.

out on his own, or rather couch surfing with like-minded individuals, hector got to experience the highest points of pleasure and pain. a full blown hedonist, the only thing that mattered (and matters) to hector was fucking, fighting, stealing, and getting high. basically if you’ve ever seen the movie hellraiser, hector is frank.

though he hung around reno the most, around two years, hector doesn’t like to stick around often. even when he was situated in places like reno, he often leaves without word to anyone and shows up again like a neighborhood stray cat.

which brings him to crescent lake. pretty much run out of reno for his terrible treatment of others and his criminal activity, hector traveled all over california before settling in crescent lake. though he didn’t really need to, he’s been laying low for just over a year now. he first took up residence at the camping grounds for a few weeks before he ran out of money and got a job at the resort as a groundskeeper to pay off his bill. it’s hard work but sometimes you gotta work a little so you can ball a lot. now he lives at the redwood with two roommates.

his debt is paid but hector likes it in crescent lake. it’s small but new people come through all the time, so he hasn’t gotten bored yet. plus he likes to be a big fish in a little pond, he can use people and control them better that way. he basically just coasts on his charm and curly hair.

the biggest thing to know abt hector is that he’s a horny dude. he’s literally always thinking about sex and the second he meets you, he’s thinking about fucking you, no matter how old you are (as long as it’s legal because gross and i would never rp that), if you’re in a relationship/married, or what gender you are. he is literally the worst.

wanted connections:

sexual partners: basically hector wants to bang everyone. if you’re up for it, he will fuck you at pretty much any time, but just know that he’s also fucking like five other people and has never been monogamous in his entire damn life.

a girlfriend: okay so i just said he’s never been monogamous but sometimes hector likes to pretend. or rather, he’s using her to get something, likely companionship when he’s bored or access to money/drugs/alcohol, whatever. a place to sleep at night. just something! she’ll probably think they’re more serious than they actually are but hector does actually like her as a person, or she’s trying to get him to be more serious/grow up.

enemies: hector is a hard person to like and an easy person to hate. he has very little regard for others and enjoys physical fighting bc it feels good. they can hate him because he screwed them over, cheated on them, cheated on their friend/sibling/whatever, stole something from them, or they just don’t like his smug face.

friends: if your muse likes to party, hector is your man. he basically just lives to have fun. however, his version of fun is kind of scary and dangerous at times. he can be a bad influence on your muse and get them into trouble or they can be a good influence on him.

a close friend/confidant: hector isn’t an emotional person but occasionally he does have moments of vulnerability. when this happens, your muse is the person he comes to when he needs someone to be there for him or needs someone to talk to. your muse could be doing this reluctantly or in hopes that he’ll be there in the same way for your muse, which isn’t very likely but hector will like to pretend lol.

Born and raised in Port Angeles, Washington, Carter’s life was about survival. His father could never hold down a job, as he was more concerned where his next fix was coming from rather than providing for his family. His mother worked three jobs, and was hardly home.

Since their mother was working most of the day, Carter and his sister relied on and took care of one another.

When Carter was seven, his mother finally decided to leave his dad, only to jump into another horrible relationship. This guy was less of a drunk and more of an abuser. But he was a police officer with a nice paycheck and within a year the two were married.

Carter has always been a little bit of a fighter. But what he lacks in physical strength, he makes up in mental strength. Well, so he thinks. He’s a pretty witty kid, and his tongue often gets him into fights his muscles can’t get him out of.

So, it wasn’t unusual for him and his step dad to get into physical altercations, as Carter smart mouth always had something to say. Bottom line, the two didn’t get along great.

He’s a great salesman. He’s been selling things since he was on the playground. When he was a kid it was candy bars, when he was a teenager, it was weed.

He was a practically had a whole business set up in his high school selling tree to his peers. He was bringing in a decent amount of money, enough to help if he needed to and buy some things for himself.

Eventually, his stepdad found out what he was up to, and was not happy about it. They two got into a very heated fight, which ended up with Carter getting beaten nearly to death.

His sister came home at the perfect time, and intervened with her mom’s pistol she kept in the closet, just in case. She put a bullet in her step dad’s brain.

With not much else to do but run, the brother and sister fled out of Washington, and wandered throughout various cities through Idaho, Oregon, and California. They stumble upon a town called Crescent Lake, and Carter thought it would be a great place to set up a marijuana business.

It’s been about a year since he’s been in Crescent Lake, and that is the longest time he’s lived somewhere since he was fifteen. He still sells weed (among other products), but he also works at the gas station.

POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS:

Carter’s sister is a wanted connection on the main!

CUSTOMERS: People who buy off of Carter. I would love some loyal customers as well as maybe some newer ones. Carter will hook it up and he definitely the plug around town.

UNREQUITED CRUSHES: Carter falls in love with anyone who is nice to him, tbh. So, he could have a handful of these. It would be interesting for him to have some crushes that are playing him for free drugs.

FRIENDS: Carter is the type of person that can be friends with anyone, no matter age, social status, or interests. I would like to him to have a variety of different kinds of friends. I would like friends that he could party with as well as some older ones that look out for him?

ABOUT. tw: death, cult.

if you’re from crescent lake then odds are you’ve heard of the odd romano twins: thomas & thomasina. their lives were, & forever would be, bound to an inescapable cult they never asked for any part in.

their father, sebastian, had the misfortune of being alma & mabel thomas’s nephew. not long after the sisters’ demise he made his way to the quaint town to make a weak attempt at cleansing the family name.

the trip wasn’t a total failure, though. crescent lake was where he met greta. it was love at first sight... or so he thought. they jumped into the relationship a little too fast & within months learned she was pregnant with twins. this is when things grew hairy. 

seb began to notice things in greta that love had previously clouded. with very little investigation he learned that she was just another ‘thomian’ cult loon, using him in hopes of giving birth to a 'pure being’ of thomas blood. disgusted, seb left without a trace, never to be heard from again.

the twins, thomas ‘tome’ & thomasina ‘tamsin’, grew up in the south crescent neighborhood, the family riding off of an unemployed greta’s trust-fund. it didn’t take long for the trust fund to run dry, &, when the kids were nearly six, they were left with little choice but to take haven in the lakeland mobile home park.

she tried her hardest to brainwash them into a ‘thomian’ way of thinking, but tamsin’s mind was far less malleable than her brother’s. to her mother’s dismay she questioned & argued far too much. as much as tamsin tried to cleanse tome’s mind of their mother’s poison words, he could never break free of her spell. this would ultimately lead to his doom. 

when the twins were fifteen, tamsin got a sinking feeling in the put of her stomach whilst at school. she rushed home to find it empty. following the gps tracker on her twin’s phone, she found herself at the edge of the crescent lake. by then it was too late.

paramedics & emergency services arrived, dragging two cold bodies out of the lake. greta had finally convinced tome to make the ultimate sacrifice to god. they were able to revive tamsin’s mother, but her brother wasn’t so lucky.

the lack of oxygen damaged her mother’s brain & now tamsin is burdened with taking care of the witch. getting a job at the campground, where she always feels closest to tome’s spirit, she’s been working as a maid for years.

TID-BITS.

her blood-affiliation to the thomas sisters’, as well as the tragic death of her brother, has made her a bit of a celebrity to the tourists in town & campground guests. it isn’t uncommon of them to ask for her photo or berate her with questions. she usually just flashes them the bird.

her surname ( romano ) is actually her mother’s maiden name. ‘thomasina thomas’ just didn’t have the right ring to it.

just because she’s been working as a maid for years doesn’t necessarily mean she’s a good one. the girl has developed some very sticky fingers; it isn’t uncommon for guests to notice a trinket or two missing from their luggage. her kleptomania helps her keep a little bit of pocket cash to spend on things other than rent, food, & medication for mother-dearest.

tamsin doesn’t think of herself as a medium, but she doesn’t still feel a connection to her late-brother. some people think she’s crazy when they see her chattering to herself, but she’s actually just chit-chatting to his spirit. he never responds, but she likes to think he’s listening.

she had dreams of ditching the small town to attend a prestigious art school. unfortunately, she was trapped to her hell-hole of a trailer to care for a devil-woman. she still paints & draws whenever she gets a chance, usually as an escape.

she has a cat named jitters. he acts more like a canine than feline & is known to follow at her heels almost everywhere she goes.

she almost always has something in her mouth, usually hubba-bubba gum or a cigarette... sometimes both. she’s practically addicted to the two.

CONNECTIONS.

tome’s best friend: this person was best friend’s with tammo before he died. tamsin always tagged along on their adventures. they were the three musketeers that spent nearly everyday together. whether this muse & tamsin drifted ways or grew closer after tome’s death is totally open.

on / off: tamsin has major commitment issues AND daddy issues... never a good pairing. she cares about this person a lot, but can’t help but abruptly pull away anytime they get too close.

fwb: noncommittal with no strings attached. sure she probably daydreams ‘what if we were something more’, but is determined not to catch feelings. how they feel about each other outside the bedroom ( annoyance, enemies, friends, etc. ) can be discusses.

worker bestie: tamsin works on the campgrounds as a maid. it’s not the most desirable job &, oh boy, she has seen some crazy shit in those rooms. she & this person love to complain about their jobs, share horror stories, & make their jobs just a teensy bit more bearable.

paranormal club ( 0 / 2 ): ghosts, ghoulies, aliens... you name it, she’s hunted for it. blame it on her brother’s death, but she’s obsessed with the paranormal. tamsin & these two think of themselves as ‘hunters of the unordinary’. they have a corny blog, but it has a small following. their foolery is mostly for their OWN entertainment.

mila was adopted at a young age by her parents’ close friends after her mother’s death, for which mila’s father was convicted and sentenced to life for. there is a great controversy over the handling of her mother’s crime scene and whether or not her father was responsible or not. there’s even a netlfix documentary called there’s no smoke in her lungs about her mother that raises more questions than it provides answers. mila has never seen it.

the liddell’s kept mila’s surname due to her age, but she is very much their daughter after having been raised by them from the age of seven on up. she’s very close with her adopted siblings and is especially fond of her sister lisa--though she doesn’t always like the choices in social groups lisa makes.

after receiving her bachelor’s in cultural anthropology and sociology, mila went on to pursue a doctorate in urban folklore and deviance. she’s chipped away many of her upper level courses and is now working on a thesis. the trip down to crescent lake offered a unique microcosm of historical tragedy, urban legends, and contemporary disappearances--the perfect mix for her thesis. she’s tagged along with lisa to see if she can make anything useful out of all of this.

more on nina. nina started off as a character in a disney rp and i’ve decided to travel different universes with her (har-har). i’m kinda shy in rl, and I’m not the best at keeping friends (keeping it 100, yes.) and I kinda wanted to give those traits to nina. 

she’s generally kept to herself, probably. As I’m writing this, nothing is set in stone. I feel like that usually kills the muse for me. as i rp, i prefer to go with the flow. starting off with bios and profiles aint my thing. replying to starters is my thing. as I go along headcanons are bound to ensue, naturally. i’m up for chatting and the likes. wanna get to know nina, wanna chat about life or even death (if you’re into that) feel free to hmu.

- was 6 when she moved to crescent lake with father, step mother and younger brother at the time.

- only child to late mother, june jackson, first to currently alive and well father, jim sommers, and the first step child to akeela sommers. 

- was the self-proclaimed “black sheep” of the household. didn’t get along with many folks around crescent lake, especially her own. the rebel child, the wild child, the bad influence... however you want to put it, she was/is all that in short.

- has been told she smells like tea tree oil, mango and outside (interchangeably or all together).

- fashion sense: the bare foot hippie hobo still in middle-school. 

- artistically inclined. 

- sleep walker. 

born in bainbridge island, washington, on january 14th, 1999, as lainey novak. she had two older siblings and one younger brother. her parents, craig and justina, were high school sweethearts. they were just two dumb kids when they first got pregnant and shortly afterwards, they were married.

they lived off of craig’s minimum wage salary as they had another child only a year after the first, and then quickly after that, lainey arrived. the children were relatively calm and happy, but things were very strained between craig and justina, as the bills piled up and justina became frustrated with her life.

with their last child born and their older children becoming school-aged, justina got a part time job as a receptionist at a local newspaper office. over time, justina started to fall in love with a reporter there, fantasizing about a life with a strange man and no children. while she loved her kids, she began to resent them for ‘stealing her youth’ away, while craig was none the wiser.

after two years at the newspaper, justina had built up her fantasy so much that it began to bleed into real life and she started an affair with the reporter. however, he wasn’t interested in anything serious, especially not a woman with multiple children, and justina eventually decided she needed to get rid of her children to be with him. justina shot her four children, blaming the incident on a home intruder. the incident ended with all her siblings deceased, lainey the only one to survive.

lainey was sent to a foster home as her mother went to trial and was eventually sent to prison for life for the murder of three of her children. lainey was adopted a short time later by the liddells, renamed lisa for privacy, and moved down to california in petaluma.

lisa, only a small child when all of this occurred, adjusted well to life with the liddells. though she had vague memories of her family before and the incident, lisa became convinced those were just dreams. it wasn’t until her late adolescence that lisa realized it really happened. the liddells didn’t hide what happened from lisa, but they were careful about it, in case word got out and unwanted attention came to them.

lisa got along well with her adopted siblings and did well in school, though was a pathological people-pleaser. she easily got swept up into popular crowds and their bad habits, though she was the ‘nice one’ out of the popular crowd she hung around with.

lisa got into stanford, just a stone’s throw away from petaluma, where her older adopted sister jamila already attended. thinking she’d have a fresh start, as none of her high school friends were going to stanford, she quickly fell into old habits once she started to rush omega beta zeta.

there, she became part of the ‘popular crowd’ once again, though they were much worse than anything she encountered in high school. (think the heathers, lisa being the mcnamara.) while she was, once again, the ‘nice one’ of the group, she began to feel more pressured into doing things that she’d usually resist against, and lisa discovered she had a meaner side to her than she thought before.

in her sophomore year of college, lisa has grown tired of being part of the omega beta zetas and the fierce foursome, but she loves her best friends and truthfully, the attention she gets from being part of them is nice. still, lisa has become a bit more passive aggressive, and fights back in subtler ways. she doesn’t like herself when she’s around the foursome, but she doesn’t who she’d be without them, either.

lisa has come to crescent lake as part of her vacation with her best friends, though it quickly got bigger until even her adopted sister jamila has tagged along. she was expecting a quiet, relaxing vacation with her girls but really, who was she kidding? this was only an excuse to party... or is it? does someone else in the group have nefarious reasons for bringing them all to lake crescent camp grounds?

a townie that’s caught lisa’s eye. usually lisa keeps to herself, rather shy, but this muse is just so alluring that lisa is finding herself drawn to them.
