Hob can see the shape of it, in how uncharacteristically unprepared Dream is. In the austere, gothic throne, all alone on its spindly pedestal. His instinct is to stand, but then he thinks of Dream lounging across the steps and sits at the top by Dream's feet, off to the side. "Might as well look like I belong here, ey?" The heated look Dream gives him could melt stone.

Another plane, another train, another bottle in the brain, the boys cry, distorted as Hob yanks the headset off his head. He opens his mouth and closes it several times, trying to regain the power of speech. To dig out the name buried under six hundred years of memories. "C…Crispin?"

@five-and-dimes and @delta-pavonis both charged me to post seven sentences but six felt more appropriate so I stopped there.

Hob smiles ruefully, leaning into his caress — even now, Hob's complete acceptance of him catches him off guard. "I'll kick Matthew's ass if he doesn't bring you back in one piece." Dream makes a face at the thought of Matthew being responsible for his safety, but before he can retort Hob has pulled him into a desperate kiss. "I love you," he says, breaking the kiss just enough to speak against Dream's lips. Dream takes the words and holds them close. "I don't want you to go."

So I don't have much in the way of WIP I'm afraid! But just for you, here's a snippet from WAY in advance that I have written. I've been hesitant to show it and give the game away so far. I hope this doesn't spoil too much.

Endless. The call goes out into the fabric of the firmament, weaving itself into the cracks of the universe. My siblings. My... family. Dream clenches his fists in the sand so hard it vitrifies. I do not stand in my gallery, nor do I hold your sigils. Will you hearken to me? They must. They must.

Once before, I begged for your aid. I do so now not for myself. The glass shatters beneath his hands. It is not for him. Perhaps that will tip the scales. He does not know what else to do. Please. Dream closes his eyes. Help us. 

There's silence for a moment; true silence. Nothing can be heard from the orb. The wind is still. Even the waves on the shore are muted. The universe holds its breath. Dream can't look, can't bear to see if he's abandoned. So long as he can't see it, it isn't happening. 

"Oh, get up, little brother, there's no need for that." Death's hand is under his elbow, helping him to his feet. "Everyone's coming." Dream blinks at her. 

"Everyone?”
