anthony   and   kate   bridgerton   had   been   married   for   three  months   now,   but   there   was   something   that   was   missing   ——   and   today,   that   missing   thing   would   join   their   marriage.   kate   had   wanted   to   do   a   traditional   ceremony   in   her   home   country,   and   the   second   she   mentioned   it,   anthony   knew   they   had   to   do   so   too.   just   like   anthony   knew   from   the   time   he   was   young   that   he’d   be   participating   in   a   traditional   christian   ceremony,   he   was   sure   his   wife   anticipated   a   traditional   hindu   one.   they’d   started   planning   for   their   ceremony   when   they   arrived   in   india,   and   now,   the   day   had   come.

the   ceremony   was   more   different   than   he   was   expecting,   but   seeing   the   joy   on   his   wife’s   face   took   away   any   confusion   he   might   have   had.   and   she   was   beautiful   ——   she   wore   an   elegant   red   dress,   one   that   was   far   different   and   far   more   stunning   than   the   one   she   wore   in   aubrey   hall.   he’d   placed   a   garland   of   roses   around   her   neck,   and   she’d   done   the   same.   honestly,   his   face   hurt   from   smiling,   even   if   he   can’t   understand   the   priest.

after   the   priest   finishes   speaking,   kate   squeezes   his   hand,   letting   him   know   that   it’s   his   turn   to   speak   now   ——   he   got   to   say   his   own   vows   now,   and   though   there   were   a   few   things   he   had   to   touch   on,   anthony   made   it   through   his   vows,   ones   that   he   got   to   write   and   mean   rather   than   the   same   standard   vows   repeated   in   their   first   wedding.   he   made   it   through   with   only   one   tear   ——   but   the   second   kate   starts   speaking,   his   eyes   water   and   tears   spill   down   his   cheeks.   how   lucky   he   was   to   meet   someone   who   challenged   him,   who   made   him   want   to   be   better   so   he   could   be   someone   that   she   deserved.   and   until   he   became   that   man,   all   he   could   do   was   love   her,   and   love   her   he   would.

“   your   new   position   suits   you,   @aviscountess​.   ”    if   anyone   in   town   was   capable   of   becoming   viscountess   bridgerton,   it   was   her   friend   kate.   she   seemed   happy   there,   much   happier   than   her   sister   may   have   been.    “   and   your   duties?   how   are   you   finding   them?   ”

her eyes trail the fallen fruit,  until a hand like her own brings it up,   where edwina meets the eyes of her sister  :     to see determination bare its sweet fruit before her own eyes.  she laughs for a moment,   as kate does what kate does best — bring out the best in edwina.

“if you desire the sun and moon, all you have to do is go out and shoot at the sky.”   ♡   @aviscountess​

she had been in many a fine london home, and performed under more than a few illustrious roofs. but this was her first time in bridgerton house. the family’s name was one of the most talked about of the ton. one or two of the brothers -- though, admittedly, she could not just then recall which -- had even earned some interesting reputations of their own amongst her circle... regardless, she could not pretend she was not the slightest bit curious about the family that so often found its name in the scandal sheets. it was, perhaps, one of the few things they had in common.

of course, their ability to pay was no small draw either...

but such reflections remained firmly in check when she spotted her hostess.    “  lady bridgerton,  ”    she said, wearing the engaging smile she’d crafted precisely for these situations.    “  thank you for the invitation. i hope my performance will live up to your expectations...  ”

𝗂𝗍    𝗂𝗌    𝗅𝖾𝗌𝗌    𝗈𝖿𝗍𝖾𝗇    𝗍𝗁𝖺𝗍    𝗒𝗈𝗎    𝖼𝗈𝗆𝖾    𝗍𝗈    𝗅𝗈𝗇𝖽𝗈𝗇    𝗇𝗈𝗐.    and    you    are    really    without    company    now    a    days.    it    is    another    reason    why    you    enjoy    being    in    london    now.    the    twins    make    your    life    lively,    remind    you    that    perhaps    the    city    is    not    as    bad    as    you    had    initially    thought    it.    visiting    kate    and    anthony    was    one    of    your    favorite    thing,    even    if    perhaps    this    time    it    was    not...    a    simply    visit.    you    needed    to    talk    to    anthony.    needed    to    talk    through    this    with    someone    who    understood.    taking    oliver    had    been    a    last    minute    decision.    all    of    this    has    been    last    minute.    you    had    not    expected    to    see    her,    to    upfront    her    first.    to    see    you    as    you    are    now.    you    know    she    is    bound    to    see    that    something    is    wrong    with    you.    that    this    is    not    a    simple    out    of    the    blue    visit.    and    yet    still,    you    smile,    or    try    to.    you    had    been    insufferable    for    most    of    the    ride,    and    oliver    you    are    sure    is    tire    of    it,    and    you    speak,    forcing    the    words    out    of    your    mouth,    ❝    lady    bridgerton,    kate,    it    is....    nice    to    see    you.    is    anthony    around?    i...    i    need    to    talk    to    him.    ❞    oliver    smiles    at    your    side,    more    cherry    that    you    are    quite    honestly.

he   loves   her.   he   finally   got   to   say   it   after   months   and   months   of   holding   it   in,   and   now   all   anthony   wants   to   do   is   yell   it   from   the   rooftops.   i   love   kathani   sharma.   i   have   ever   since   i   first   saw   you   and   i’ve   never   stopped.   and   she   loves   him   too.   and   here   they   are   now,   out   on   the   terrace   together,   kissing   under   the   brilliant   display   of   fireworks   in   the   night   sky   above   them,   hidden   from   the   view   of   the   rest   of   the   ball.   part   of   him   wonders   if   this   were   a   dream.   however,   as   she   pulls   back   from   the   kiss,   he   knows   that   with   the   way   her   body   feels   pressed   against   his,   with   the   way   her   hand   tangles   in   his   hair,   this   is   no   dream.

did   she   really   just   say   that?   he   feels   like   his   soul   may   as   well   join   the   fireworks   that   crackle   above   them.   the   viscount   never   expected   to   marry   for   love,   the   future   viscountess   never   expected   to   marry   at   all,   yet   here   they   were,   promised   to   each   other,   knowing   a   better   future   for   the   two   of   them   waited   for   them.    “   we’ll   do   it.   we’ll   marry   each   other   ——   i’ll   speak   to   my   mother   the   second   we   return   for   the   evening,   and   the   preparations   will   begin   ——   you’ve   made   me   a   very   happy   man,   miss   sharma.   i   only   hope   i’ve   made   you   even   a   fraction   as   happy   as   you’ve   made   me.   ”

        “i was hoping he would dislike anthony for a while   longer, honestly.  watching his little stare downs with a dog was most entertaining.”  fortunately, newton seemed to like her immediately on the first meeting.  edwina had commented that he rarely rolled over for a belly rub when somebody new was petting him, and eloise did not hesitate to tell her older brother — much to his further exasperation that day but her own amusement.  far too many things had happened since then; their first meeting at aubrey hall felt much longer ago than it really was.  “i don’t think it would be wrong to assume that he might have been more intent on getting newton’s affection at some point.”

anthony   bridgerton   had   never   met   a   more   infuriating   woman.   it   was   as   if   kate   sharma   spent   all   her   free   time   trying   to   figure   out   how   to   make   the   viscount’s   blood   boil,   and   whatever   her   plans   were,   they   worked.   before   she   even   looks   at   him   with   those   judgmental   eyes,   his   heart   pounds   and   his   face   grows   red   with   anger.   and   yet,   it’s   her   he   looks   forward   to   seeing   when   he   goes   to   see   edwina.   it’s   her   that   stimulates   his   mind   and   visits   him   when   he   finally   dreams.   it’s   sickening.

“   is   edwina   here?   ”    kate   shakes   her   head   in   response.   oh,   damn   it.   he   should   walk   away,   and   yet   he   stays,   fake   smile   plastered   to   his   face   and   hands   clasped   behind   his   back.    “   do   you   know   when   she’ll   be   back?   ”    he   asks,   attempting   to   keep   his   composure   ——   it’s   all   he   can   do   to   keep   himself   from   just   going   back   home.   she’s   outside,   my   lord.   their   mother   speaks   up   from   behind   him.   anthony   turns   around   to   look   at   her,   gently   bowing   his   head   in   gratitude.    “   thank   you,   lady   sharma.   ”    he   says   politely,   smiling   at   her   before   turning   back   to   look   at   kate.    “   now,   was   that   so   hard?   ”    he   asks,   turning   towards   the   door.
