bweird's OC-tober Days 4 and 5: Under appreciated OC and Redesign OC (I actually didn't mean to combine prompts again but here we are asdgfhdf)
As I was thinking on which of my OCs was kind of underappreciated, I realized I hadn't used my OC Avis in years, which kinda sucked bc she had been one of my favorites for the longest time, but her story was one that just didn't work for me anymore so I decided I would rework her a little and that's how we ended up with a full re-design for day 5 !!
So, introducing Avis Luna
Avis is a mostly normal woman just doing her best all while she lives with a sentient tattoo that she has a symbiotic relationship with. It's capable of shifting off of her body in order to take physical form, but most often lays dormant and will twists and change shape on her body.
Design notes and how I got here below
-
I don't have the original drawings I did of her but she started as a very simply designed character (blue t-shirt with a moon design, jeans and sneakers) with a very rough and abrasive personality, but after years of writing her I revamped her design (the design you can see in the concept page) and gave her a more reserved vibe. Very tired and snarky librarian with an attempt to lean into an owl vibe. I'm not sure how successful I was with that, so this time around I wanted to be more deliberate with her silhouette and shape language
Her features are more rounded, from her face shape to the glasses, and the simplified hair flips that are meant to resemble stylized wings
Her clothes are meant to look more casual and fall of off her frame, in her original iteration I imagined her being much more grunge so I looked to that for inspiration regarding her outfit
I wanted to keep the moon motif as well as the necklaces so I turned the shape into a pendant to keep the chest area from being too cluttered
Her colors shifted a bit, when I started coming up with new lore I wanted her to have a more mystical quality so the blue shifted a little closer to purple and her hair tinted to a warmer color to match
As for her wings and the tattoo uhhh
In both stories she was placed in, hybrid traits/features were something that were common or fit with the world building, but since those have been scrapped I was very hesitant to keep her wings until I got to my last concept sketch with the black wings and suddenly the solution worked itself out. "What if she still had wings, but they aren't always there?" And since I had sketched them in in black it reminded me of ink so the next thought was "Well what if they were ink?" And that's how we got here
