it was hard for avery to comprehend what she was feeling. part of her felt guilty for how cade viewed his father and the fight she had just witnessed. had she never made her existence known, would it still have happened, just farther down the line? or would their relationship have continued on as it always had been. she had come to like them though, the ones she had met at least. but when she heard ludvik’s voice call lavrants son something in her felt unbalanced. it was the last thing she ever expected and there was a small part of her that felt betrayed by ludvik for keeping his relation from her and her grandparents for allowing this man into her life without telling her the truth. 

she followed cade out, wanting to make sure he was okay but when he and leo left, avery chose to stay behind. she paced outside the the door, keeping her eyes glued to the door. she didn’t know how much time had passed but when she saw ludvik finally emerge from the house, avery stopped in her tracks and turned to face him. “you knew who i was this whole time, didn’t you? that’s why you visited when i was with my grandparents, wasn’t it?” avery wasn’t angry, she couldn’t be. even if he didn’t admit who he was, at least he had been present in her life. “why didn’t you just tell me?”
