Still trying to find the line between Avel being confident and proud and very aloof and also not being a total dickhead. I can't have him changing personalities four chapters in.
Almost solved my last problem, so now am of course, grabbing myself by my shoulders and going, "Why is this a fantasy novel???"
Which is to say, I have started this with too many Themes, etc. and now I don't have anything fun for them to actually do while exploring them.
Why is this a fantasy novel. What are they doing with the magic? It cannot just be a fancy metaphor. That's literary fiction. Magical realism at best.
So this question is, of course, critical.
Once again, why did I decide to write this book. It's very not good.
Did some brief math to determine if I have solved the problem I was trying to fix and could move on with my life/this book.
No.
No, I cannot.
Avel's word count is still clocking two times Rafael's at the point at which they meet in chapter two, which is just. Help; this is the better side of the situation?

Your mystery question is here :)
🌸Cherry Blossom: How does your character feel about death? Have they experienced a lot of loss in their life?
Oh, this means picking a character. Hm.
I guess, for my current projects, I don't think either of the protagonists is particularly...familiar? with death. They're teenagers in a relatively modern, developed setting, which is not a situation in which people are typically exposed to a lot of death unless there are some serious tragedies happen. Some grandparents or great grandparents primarily, if that, generally speaking. Maybe some tragic accidents that made a big splash of some kind.
But they are also both progressively disabled with a very unknown weirdness that affects how they think about their own futures a lot: because they aren't sure how long it will be or what abilities they'll have. And to some extent, I have to assume that includes thinking about their own deaths.
But the fact that they haven't thought all that much about it in anything I've written does kind of indicate their setting and their age, I think. Most 17-18yos in our time period in this environment simply do not think about dying all that often.
Word: Hunted
You know, I was pretty sure I didn't have this, mostly because this word conjures up much more secondary fantasy or at least gritty urban fantasy than I'm currently working on (although intoxicating vibes at the moment. I am still somewhat mentally impaired from this medication withdrawal. Thank you, this is my excuse for everything).
But I actually have exactly One.
It was empty, but Addie and Selena liked lazing in there, so he jammed the door shut with a wicker chair and hunted for the tripod he and Selena shared.
No words yet, but I have some other stuff to take of this minute anyway.
Thanks for playing.
