The NY Times has become a lighting rod for attacking the drug industry. While the drug industry at time does need a good slap an editorial in today’s Times on the cost of Avastin vs. benefit takes on the wrong sponsors. More than 50 percent of cancer therapies are prescribed off-label, according to the National Association of Independent Review Organizations, which estimates that 20 percent of all drugs are used off-label. When the FDA asked for the label change it was patients and physicians who yelled the most, not Genentech
