A Man Auto-Tuned His Cat And The Results Were Hilarious This cat might end up on the next Kanye record. When auto-tune first became a thing in the mid-2000s, almost everyone wanted their hands on an app that could turn their voice into the next T-Pain and Kanye West song.

Because everyone needs more Shatner singing about Deep Fried Turkey in their life.
The fleeting "music" industry
Remember when music was actually good?
Remember Motown? Those who are inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Remember when it was based on vocal TALENT?
What happened?.......
Maybe this is evolution, and maybe it's the fact that I am older and have come across songs that are so "popular" and I'm shaking my head wondering: "Is this what passes for "good" music?"
To be far, there are always questionable songs, from all eras. I do recall that "bubble gum" songs were always used. Today, it's "Call Me Maybe" and "Gangnam Style".
CATCHY
And that's what sells, right? 'Pop" music seems to stay away from anything too serious. The less it means, the better. The more they sell. This makes record executives VERY happy, and lets not forget that it's lining their pockets.
What recession?
VOCAL TALENT?!..... Excuse me?
Vocal talent? Today? What is that?
It's the lost 'art".
Now, it's: "Let's put a cute boy/girl in front of the camera. They'll sell based on their looks, alone. Vocals?... Don't worry about that. We have loop pedals and auto-tune. If Paris Hilton can do it, anyone can."
It's like photoshop, for vocals. Technology makes anything possible.
GHOST WRITERS
Who wrote that song? The singer?..... Really? !
Beyonce is a perfect example of this. She gets her name on the credits and didn't write a lick. Ego booster? Deceive the "fans"?... I guess. Who is the lie going to hurt? Makes the "star" seem even larger than life. They can do it all, and still look amazing doing it.
A single word, doesn't mean you "wrote" the song.
INSTRUMENTS
While this very much includes vocals, it seems that playing of instruments is a thing of the past. Because of technology and you can just get someone else play it for you. You needn't bother to learn the root of music.
Sad, I heard Ke$ha sing an acoustic song, and she sounded pretty good. But her music doesn't reflect that.
RECORD EXECUTIVES AND THEIR "GOALS"
Money is their business and the way they get it is a massive overall of the "artists" image. You want to write/sing about your struggles, how you were bullied, etc? "That's all well in good, but we want you to sing about going out with your girls and finding the perfect guy."
Record companies OVERHAUL everything. They strip you down and rebuild what they want. You'r hair is brown, they want you to be blonde. You're dressed like a "goody".... "Let's sex that up a bit." You wanna use your own vocals without Auto-tune.... "But this will give your vocals a "better" sound."
The beats, and vocals over vocals, over vocals seems to wash away the "artists" true intentions. This is not what they envisioned. but this is the money making "gimmick". Either take it, or leave it. You're a finished "product" of what they deem "marketable". They make millions this why. Who are you to question it. Go with the flow, right? "You're gonna be a star!"
LIVE PERFORMANCES
"We got you the top choreographer in the industry. Your moves are going to be sensational. Don't worry about your live vocals. We have backing tracks and we'll lower your mic. This will be great!."
Bieber, Usher's "protege", does exactly what Usher is now doing. The performance is are just that, a performance. Based solely on entertaining. After all, this is the entertainment business, first and foremost. Vocals have become more than secondary.
Usher/Bieber are NOT who they first were, when they first emerged in this industry.
WHO YOU ARE
Are you who the music executives tell you to be? All to make money on a vision that isn't even yours?
Acoustic music seems to get a back seat, to what is the "norm", now. I gravitate towards artists who have the ability to just sit there, with a piano/guitar and not much else, and just sing. That's when you get the sense of them, and what they are really about. And it is such a rarity in this industry, You don't always need to big productions of synthesizers, bass, etc... to have a hit,
But then again, what do I know? I'm just a "fan" of music. The more stripped down, the better, for me. The more I can "connect" lyrically/emotionally.
If I can't duplicate the auto-tune sound, then that's "manufactured", to me, and is not my style. It's what sells for some. But not selling me on what you've manipulated, to make your millions.
The true musicians of the world, are a dying breed. They do what they love. Hence them not being as "popular" as others.
