Firstly: water. There’s definitely water underneath us. It wasn’t terribly hard to find and tap into it, but initial readings are dubious at best. It’s not clean to say the least - toxic metallic elements in the water, most likely from some deposits somewhere - as well as some general filth & higher levels of bacteria. If we’re going to start drinking it long term, we’re going to need some sort of water processing.

The second concern is Eos’ latent radiation. Readings are certainly lower than the initial readings taken at Site 1 and Site 2 - as Prodromos has already found - but there’s still some latent radiation around the ‘Aeyus’ site. Inhibitors are keeping the area around us clean and perfectly livable, but I’ll need to scan and potentially treat anyone returning from expeditions. No doubt Teague will be a common visitor.

At the firm insistence of Site Supervisor Silse, a very early (both in the sense that we’re still getting everything set up, and I left at an ungodly hour) reconnaissance patrol was undertaken, surveying the terrain around the Aeyus site. Assessment was made, pertaining to the defensive quality of the area around the site.

Cliff behind the site offers a distinct defensive advantage; attack from above would be difficult, concern only needs to be directed toward potential attacks from north, west, and south. Flat land gives a solid advantage, little cover to hide an advance, and to safeguard an approach. Once any attackers are within firing range, they have a long open charge to clear before they can hope for any cover. Looking to set up defensive siding on all walkways, and emplacements at the base of the stack of prefabs. (Personal Note: Seriously, who’s idea was it to stack them? The tower is defensive but it wasn’t what I expected.)

Doctor Ethlon, writing my first log now that the system is all set up. Not really sure exactly how much detail these can have in them. Could have been useful if they gave us a short seminar on just how they want us to write these, what is allowed in personal logs, what isn’t...probably would have been wasteful.

We're still getting everything set up. Making sense of all the survey data will take a few days. It could take weeks to really know what all these numbers on water and radiation levels are. Hopefully the shielding works. It glows at least, it must be working. 

Hoping to get some good readings of the groundwater before we run out of purified water. It's fine to tell us where to find the water, and give us the tools to tap it, but if I end up finding some kind of disease in it...well, it will be bad. Even adjusting to bacteria cultures some distance away on the same planet can be hard on the body...bacteria alone here, so foreign, will be bad enough without us all catching some ancient disease that fifty years from now researchers will find out wiped out the people that left behind all the strange tech here. Hopefully it’s clear and untainted by dirt, too. Wouldn't want to be drinking foul-tasting water every day.

Supervisor Silse tells me I’ll be working with a Turian. Petrana something or other. Hard not to question the merit of bringing a botanist, no doubt anything here will be entirely toxic to everyone, but I will play nice and at least humour the idea until there's something that is conclusive whether or not it's a feasible effort. Better to involve me than have someone blindly tasting plants to see which ones are lethal. I suppose.
