Ethan won’t tell you about anyone from his past. There will be bits and pieces he talks about on exceptionally good days which are rare or extremely low days which are equally as abundant. In the days before college, growing up in group homes and the system because no one wanted to adopt an older child with as much baggage and damage came with him. Ethan was avoided by any family looking to take in a kid. He never did get adopted thus why his last name has always remained the same. However, our ETPD officer remembers the DPD officer that would always look out for the kid.

Officer Adam Shaw.  

By now the man had to be at least 70 and well situated in a smart retirement home in some fancier part of Michigan perfecting his golf swing. No, when Ethan met him he had to be 50 - 55 years old looking like 10 miles of hard road. Ginger hair ( what was left of it ) was cut close to his head and he had a scruffy darker beard which was unusual. He looked like he’d been mauled or stabbed and shot a few times more then the average person should’ve been physically harmed. The wall of medals though given to him by the city and those cheap placque commemorating his service lent more to the story that every bit of grizzle was earned in the line of duty. Shaw was the type of man who drank black coffee that tasted like death and could chew glass just to feel something. A real hardass on the outside but Officer Shaw was more than that. He’s picked up Ethan on a few occasions and let him off with a warning a few times before but when Ethan was about to do something incredibly stupid, Officer Shaw opened the door to his squad car and told the kid to get in. The two went to a greasy spoon located in some hole in the wall and they talked. Shaw’s the only one Ethan’s ever told about everything and the cop listened. He heard out the kid sipping his coffee and eating something that looked mildly edible nodding and asking questions when prompted. Towards the end of this long conversation, Officer Shaw cleared his throat. Ethan will always remember the words he said next. “Don’t let yourself become your goddamn parents. Don’t think there isn’t a way out. I’m not looking to adopt a kid because I’m an old man and I’ve got enough shit to deal with but if you feel like your going under you come to the station and ask for me and I’ll help with whatever. School, a place to stay, whatever you need kid. My only rule is you don’t break the law or I will break you. Be yourself kid and fight for something better”

13. Nickname headcanon

Although he doesn’t really remember it, his mother used to call him “little prince”. His father’s nicknames for him usually included a lot of swearing and insults, though he was careful never to use them when Jessica was in earshot.

Although he’s normally short with people, the reality is Jacob tried never to actually lose his temper. He’s scared that if he does he’ll act like his father and do something terrible to someone

Jacob doesn’t really remember his mother. He’s heard stories and he’s seen photos, but he honestly couldn’t tell you which of his memories are real, and which are just the stories he’s heard. He wishes it was different, but knows nothing will change that.
