taking a break from posting decades for a while to prep 1920's/1930's copperdale - building lots, creating citizens/a new cast, and a new era of life for my burnt out little seamstress.

ive been experimenting with how i present this story and the characters' relationships and personalities, how i can be clearer, and what is most fun and authentic for me to create - thank you all for the recent uptick in love, reblogs, reactions, and comments <3 i am always open to feedback.

13. from basic planning to a finished post, how long does that take you?

really hard to tell! tldr, MAYBE 2-3 hours if i dont need to make custom poses or build a set and just need to shoot a quick conversation. lately its a lot more (5+) because im in photoshop editing the lighting and expressions on some scenes, and in blender creating some poses from scratch.

overall, my ‘basic planning’ stage is the toughest to quantify. i do a lot of research as part of either planning out story beats/timeline, writing dialogue, or building accurate sets.

20. choose your favourite shot from your story so far

choosing a few from the past few weeks for different reasons:

luca and olivia on their way to brindleton - im proud of this one purely for how successful i think the post-processing is LOL! + sneak peek at what i started with :') movie magic

theo and olivia at her wedding - i think the colors are exactly my style and i think the private familial intimacy of it is exactly what i wanted to communicate. its a moment within olivia’s story where the pov switches ever so briefly to her father’s, and we feel that she is beloved.

11. why have you decided to tell this story? are there any messages or meanings within it?

i think all of us here have an inclination to the historical and reflecting of all the people in history who had ordinary lives and problems that we will never get to observe, and im no different. the specific catalyst was that i created my own family tree this past winter when i finally had the opportunity to see my family again after 4 years of being separated. let me tell ya, it’s a lot of poor miners! but the stories and quirks everyone remembers of their family and lives, whether endearing or heartbreaking, gave me such an appreciation for who i am and where i came from. it gave me places in history to relate to - i.e. here is where my great-great-grandmother’s husband was a spanish civil war deserter, and her daughter (my great-grandmother) opened a candy shop after world war 2. i was besotted by the idea of making my own ‘family’ that would have those connections and quirks and reference points in history too, but with stories that could actually be told instead of being snippets of memories.

i think the themes/messages that are emerging are things i spend a lot of time thinking about - the anxiety of your own wasted potential, responsibilities acting as chains, and individual dreams that get put away in an unsympathetic world.

18. choose a song that reminds you of your story

to tie in with the ‘themes’ above, overall throughout all past and future generations i’d pick stay gold - first aid kit. hopefully i can share the more spoilery songs i have for olivia in particular soon...

27. what genres would you describe your story as?
