Basically, regrinding and honing the factory edge to make it a double- (as opposed to single-) bevel tool. This serves two purposes- it will function equally well on inside and outside curves, and it puts the direction of cutting more in line with the tool itself (giving you much better control.) The tricky part is maintaining the original sweep of the gouge without making a complete mess of things. I’m excited to see how these chisels stack up to the Pfiel/Swiss Made tools, which are what I have been using for the last few years.
