Hush now, don’t explain (2019)
20% of the human population is made up of explorers, artists, inventors, hunters, the curious ones always asking why -- these are Elaine Aron’s Highly Sensitive People. They are always searching for greener pastures -- evolutionarily speaking literally, but also figuratively now that we inhabit mature cultures. They are especially sensitive to what fundamentally were nutritive opportunities (the jewels I spoke of in a previous post). Think of those birds that collect blue things, and hunters of all stripes. In a previous post I talked about using more red and gold in artwork when I’m hungry or poor. Yes, we may actually be poor -- because 80% of the human population is not sensitive, the world is designed for them and not the 20% -- but we’re also naturally hyper-vigilant. Although originally poor, MJ became rich by a very young age but his personality type kept him ever-seeking new pastures, creatively and personally. Consider his attraction to certain bold colours, to black, to travel, to asking why, to reading endlessly, to never having a stable long-term relationship, his great sensitivity to art and music and his need to constantly reinvent himself in all ways -- these are the exact qualities I have, that Miles has, that Jimi has, and that every person of this type has. I’m calling this type the “Aunty type”, because over the years I’ve noticed that almost everyone has a weird, unmarried and childless aunty who likes wearing black and red and other bright colours, loves music and art and esoteric things (and usually cats), is incredibly driven and curious, spends a lot of time alone, is blessed with a defiant self-confidence and is usually called a 'troublemaker' (they don’t seek trouble, they seek truth -- but truth equals trouble for those who fear change). MJ is for sure an aunty type, and Miles, shit -- when I read these people it is as though I’m reading my own mind. We’re a thing. And of course we’re going to be misunderstood -- when 80% of the world’s population has a different nervous system to you, you’re going to have a hard time. I have spent most of my life being misunderstood. “I’ve never met anyone like you before” is something I’ve heard more than once. MJ lamented “People don’t see what I see.” But instead of troubling our heads over it -- “Oh my God why can’t this person see what I’m seeing!?!” -- we simply need to acknowledge that most people we will encounter in our lives are actually a different breed of human. Hush now, don’t explain -- they will never understand what we’re on about, unless they are reborn with a different physiology. All we need to do is get on with what we evolved to do: look out for our ‘herd’, explore new territory, trust our own perceptions and lead. If things are boring, it’s because Highly Sensitives are outnumbered and overpowered. It has ever been thus. But guess what? There can be no advancement of the human race without them. If it were up to the 80%, we’d all still be living in the stone age. This is because non-sensitives don’t ask questions -- they just do what their parents did. Highly Sensitive People, aka Aunty Types, are going to realise their rightful role in society and lead the motherfucking world.
