There were a few instances in the film where there would be an old picture on the screen and it would focus on one figure in the picture and blur out the rest. I thought this was a really cool way of adding some dynamics to an otherwise still shot. I really loved how this film intertwined archival footage of both Nas and of New York to broaden the scope of his story to something more universal. Even though this film centered on Nas, it featured a lot of other people who could provide more context for the climate at the time, which overall made the film feel multidimensional and comprehensive. I really love how creative this film was with its use of still photos – that is something I’d love to implement into my own work.
